The '71 races were repeats from the first series, but interesting nonetheless.

I've been recording off the Foxtel signal but it cuts the end of the program off sometimes. Has anyone else had this problem?

The ABC did telecast the 1984 Touring Car Championship as well as the Sandown 500 for several years after that before it went to SBS and then part of the V8 series. Thanks to Matthew Ronke a full list of what the ABC has in it's archives was listed in a post on a previous LNL thread last year. http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....&postcount=145 Enjoy..... |

Last night, (17th) was from Warwick Farm. Beechey, Jane, Geoghan etc 2 races. Even then I think those cars were outgrowing the cct.
Was followed by Bondy, moffat etc in the torries, gtho and chargers from 1972. Lakeside Tasman series AGP was on Tuesday night. Haven't looked into the future yet just check the online guide (austar) when I get home each night. They are on at 9:30 Darwin time so much better than the southern time. |

No, it was at Warwick Farm in NSW. Where the horsetrack is (and for that matter it was there then too).

That whole ABC catalogue is quite brilliant - at least they archived theirs unlike 7 whose masters ended up as land fill somewhere.
I know Chevron have some programming which is out on DVD - dont know what else they picked up - Ive got quite a bit from the Tasman Series days available through my site - its the Alec Mildren library but I'd love to get my hands on some of the F5000 programs with Matich et al some of that stuff that Ive seen is extraordinary - at least Im grateful the ABC have preserved some history for our kids as much as us (big kids). |

I spotted the marshal as well and noticed he picked up a witch's hat, it looked to me like it was the track crossing so spectators & competitors could get onto the infield (Sandown was the same until the 1984 track extensions) and he was removing the witch's hats from the track, a bit late mind you...... Is the Graham Howard comentating some of these the same one who now writes the Historic column in AA?? |

Yes, the garden gnome...the very same. I saw him at Eastern creek for the Tasman Revival - has barely changed in 35 odd years

PDVA yes they used to have 2 temporary crossings (Western & Northern) to accomodate entry to the infield and cater for the primary focus of Warwick Farm which was horse racing so very well may have been the reason for the witches hat. I think you will find its the same Graham Howard.

Hi 275 - yes I have actually logged onto their site - there is quite a bit of footage available if you'd like to pay $40 per second for the use in dvd programs - so invariably no one uses them as you could imagine the cost of a 1 hour program - around $140,000 for use of the footage.
I'm lucky I have a couple of colleagues in the UK and also one here who have been filming motor sport for many years and have vast libraries of various historic motor sport. They produce dvd programs for me - Ive just released a number of new titles A Genlemans Motor Racing Diary 5 volume series, Motorsport Legends etc through our web sales site - Id love to include more Australian programs and occasionally you will come across an Alec Mildren type library which was produced by a colleague in Melbourne and weve just released those on our site also (Golden Age Of Motor Sport). The ABC are definitely a key - I was speaking to a chap yesterday who gave me a heads up on whats possible with them so I will persue that. At the end of the day yes its a business for me that brings in a little income and pays the bills but my primary focus is to preserve history - its so important. |
