Sorry Sam, but that article is over 2 years old, and Super GT has switched the GT500's over to carbon tubs with rollcages like DTM cars use. Only the roof and A-pillars have to carry over now from the production car, and stock block engines are no longer really used-only Nissan uses a production derived engine with a 3.4 liter version of the VK45, but even that's closer to a true racing engine than anything stock derived--the Honda uses the Acura/HPD LMP2 engine in it.
Super GT claims (or claimed) to be the fastest GT cars in the world, but without the stock monocoque center section (used until the end of 2008), they are more like DTM cars or even LMP2 cars with faux-road car bodywork on them. That is of course why GT500 has basically no privateers in the class--the "customer privateers" recived the same factory support the factory teams do, because it's so expensive. One could probably buy an Acura/HPD ARX-01 or maybe even a Porsche RS Spyder for how much a GT500 car cost now, not that the 2003-2008 semi-production based machines were any cheaper. |

There is no way the GT500 cars run stock chassis, they used to but not these days. They are virtually LMP2 cars with a roof and doors. Yes DOME built the NSX not sure if they build the HSV-10 though.

According to AUTOSPORT,
Kobayashi was not scheduled to drive Knockdown Qualifying. Kobayashi took charge of the last stint by the registration mistake of the team. |

Masaaki Bandoh(chairman of GTA) said that it was unrelated to the regulation unification affairs with DTM that 4 door saloon had been admitted by the 2012 JAF-GT500 technical regulation at the press conference.
Because the number of 2 door coupes that become base vehicles decreases, it is a original regulation that three manufacturers independently thought about. The union parts of GTA will be used about the energy recovery system. http://as-web.jp/news/info.php?c_id=2&no=28735 |

At the press conference, GTA announced that the GT300 class would be the category of JAF-GT300 and FIA-GT3 from 2012.
As for the participation of the FIA-GT2 car, it is scheduled not to admit excluding cars that are participating now. However, there is one problem. Super Taikyu(endurance) series also sets up the FIA-GT3(ST-X) class from next year. It is interesting whether entrants select a subcategory of SGT or a top category of Super Taikyu. http://www.fmotor.jp/news/2010/08/sgt_6.php |

Yeah, neither does Grand Am, they run unibody cars alongside silhouette cars and plan on introducing GT3 next year as well into the class.

AUTOSPORT(magazine) reported on the interview to Kunihiko Kakimoto about the regulation unification problem of SGT and DTM.
JAF and GTA determined that regulations of SGT and DTM were united in 2015. However, DTM can apply new regulation in 2012 if it is possible to agree a little more early. Then, our opinion is brought together, in Norisring, we made arrangements with the DTM side. The engine is decided in 2012. And bodies are united in 2012. However, because there are various problems, the chief technician on the DTM side comes to Japan in August, and we plan to talk about details. We want to value the Japanese motor sports industry about the standardization of the monocoque. Therefore, the monocoque might respectively be manufactured in Japan and Germany based on the same blueprint. As for engine, the DTM side opposes small engine displacement + DI-turbo + KERS. The problem of the cost and reliability is the reasons. BMW wants to compete for the engine. It is a condition of its returns. About the world engine plan of FIA, Norbert Haug said that F1 did not have to be the same as the engine of GT. |

Perhaps, it might be a show car to exhibit in Tokyo Auto Salon.
The name of Team LeMans is reflected in this photograph. However, the team of Toyota doesn't seem to produce the racing car of Honda. They might have undertaken the show car production from SPOON (tuning parts manufacturer). |

According to AUTOSPORT web,
This SPOON CR-Z GT is exhibited to a Tokyo auto salon. There is no intention that SPOON sports participates in SGT. http://as-web.jp/news/info.php?c_id=2&no=28914 |

And how strong is Super Taikyu compared to Super GT? Is it a series that could become more popular in Japan and compete with Super GT, or will it always be in the shadows? |
