It is reported that Frank Williams once said:
"Why bother improving the car by a second a lap if we give away half a second because of the driver." Sad that seems to be forgotten. |

He also famously would never overpay for a driver if he thought it would compromise the budget for the car development

Stroll, Martini, Rexona - where is the money going to come from?
Claire is putting a brave face on it: https://www.gpfans.com/en/articles/710/williams-set-for-new-look-in-2019/ Last edited by BSchneiderFan; 5 Sep 2018 at 21:38. |

She is but that article is old (February this year) and since then, from the outside at least, things have got worse in regard to 2019 and beyond.
I really hope that they have something up their sleeves and it's all good for 2019 onwards but it doesn't look promising from what we know at this stage. |

Article with some quotes from Claire: "painful experience"
If the team have a plan for next year, they're keeping quiet on it for now. |

Williams fans also contribute by buying Williams merchandise. So too does Mr. Sirotkin. Anyway, a return to the iconic Williams blue will be most welcome for Williams fans! What a classy look. |

totally a side question, but does anyone know how much teams actually make of off their kit?
i fell like for most teams its not a large earner. watch a race and for sure Ferrari are selling tons plus they have Ferrari apparel stores around the world (fans can come prepared). some teams (maybe just RBR now) sometimes have stuff in Puma stores. but outside of that, the teams dont really make it easy to buy kit. either you go to a race or their factory i suppose but outside of that, its almost all online and very expensive (plus shipping) compared to gear from other sports. of course i live where i live, but a couple of years ago i was in a London mall and checked out some sporting goods stores...no F1 stuff at all. |

The same sort of thing applies in the UK for football (soccer), although there are two distinct market places for the kit. Replica kit is sold by the clubs both online and in their own shops at their own stadiums. But you can also purchase replica, replica (no, that's not a typo!) kit from a number of sports' clothing outlets, but it is nowhere near the same quality and is considerably cheaper. About every two years I buy my grandson a replica kit direct from Tottenham Hotspur which he wears to his youth football team practice sessions, and it sets me back about $150, including delivery, for a short sleeve top, shorts and knee height socks. Problem is that even though he might not have outgrown or worn out the kit, the clubs tend to change their strip every one or two years. And it wouldn't do his street cred any good to be seen in out of date clothing. It's so passé! |

I love wearing old team shirts at motoring events, true fans know you are a long term enthusiast rather than there for just one race, Old gear also sells well now days, just look at the mad scramble for the pink pig and rothmans shirts at lemans, teams should take a lesson from that and reissue classic stuff it will sell well for sure.

that would be great. most sports make a good trade in re releasing retro jerseys...or at least for NFL, NHL, NBA it works.
i suspect things might get more difficult due to old/expired sponsors though. more so with the cig branded stuff. but yes, if i could easily/affordably get a hold of some of the old williams kit i would jump on that purchase! |

My Eddie Irvine T-shirt is relegated to workshop wear now....its getting a little old. And my original Hesketh Bear T-shirt fell apart a few years ago

It has been reported that the old saloon car series, the Wendy Wools Championship, is being resurrected for Special Saloons next year, and a number of former entrants/drivers and supporters are digging out their linked anoraks that date from the 70s.
What's wrong with retro (except Brexit, of course)! |

No worries. I have the Hesketh, Minardi, STP March and Ragno Arrows T-Shirts and there are many more that I want.
I recommend the Hesketh 308 beer too, expensive but good Last edited by OVERSTEER; 17 Sep 2018 at 18:04. |

I got a Marussia polo last year in Monaco for 10 euro (okay not that old school), there was a stall in the streets that had all kinds of retro gear. There's also a store here in Melbourne that sells sports teams clothing, when the GP comes around the entire downstairs becomes a dedicated F1 store with all kinds of retro stuff, old school Williams, Jordan, Arrows, Bennetton etc.. |
