I've gotten some input on the IMSA forum about the Boston area...
One place I chose would have commuter rail and buses as a possible access (South Weymouth), but the highways nearby wouldn't handle an ALMS-sized crowd very well.....according to a couple of people form that area... Here is an option on a closed air field about 45 miles west of Boston... Moore Army Air Field...today it's used by the massachusetts State Police for a Driver training School. Of course, I had to sketch a race course on it... |

and this was the place just south of Boston that supposedly had the commuter rail station next door, but the roads wouldn't handle the load...
Too bad...South Weymouth would make an awesome race course!!!! |

They are good designs Tim, it promted me to find a picture of my local town, Long Eaton so i could set out a map for a street race. I cudnt find a photograph but i did find this...
I then built up a track around it. I set it to run clockwise but it could run both ways. Ill post an original image of the town aswell so if anyone wants to have ago at it themselfs they can. |

I thought I'd have a go at Edmonton. A track with quite a lot of potential, if you ask me.
However, the bridge over the last corner has to go... no run-off at all. They'd better build a tunnel underneath the track. |

Ths is how Long Eaton would look if i matched up the roads that Chaynes had put in the green box, i had to draw them on as i cant find a similar map that already had them on, apologies for the poor quality of the roads, it looks roughly like that, i had to do it from memory!

Whoa, that straight is waaay too long for FIA standards. Throw a chicane in there somewhere...

Well, Edmonton, but the city centre airport. The yellow line shows the way that the CASCAR track ran in '97-'00

Finally...
I got back on the PC and am now able to post my attempt at Edmonton Int'l. Speedway. Sorta based it off Lustig's, therefore I placed it upon his map. I like my new Taylor Turn and the following corner. Another thing I noticed (though I didn't plan it to be that way) was that the corner combo in the top-right corner and the corner combo in the bottom-right look really similar... btw, it's still clockwise, and for the first time I put one of those silly little chicanes in the pitlane-as an option, of course -to satisfy the FIA. Hi everyone! My first post on 10 Tenths longest thread.
OK, here's my design for a street circuit around my home town of Stonehaven. My house is the crosshair in the centre of the blue circle, the track is in red and the pit lane is in blue. The track is just over 6km long and runs clockwise. I would love to see the F3/GT and ToCA Tour series race here, as there's a definite lack of street circuits in the UK outside of the Isle of Man. I've designed the track to include plenty of elevation change and variety in the scenery, whilst not disturbing the flow of traffic in the town too much and keeping away from the town centre. The circuit starts off with a long 2km straight (yeah, I know, way above FIA standards, but I could always stick a chicane in there somewhere) running North along the the South-bound side of the A90 bypass, allowing traffic to be diverted onto the North-bound carriageway to prevent the whole East coast of Scotland from grinding to a halt. This straight ends with a tight 90 degree right hander, one of the premier overtaking spots on the lap. Next is a 1 km straight along Auchenblae road - the circuit hospital is on the left - before ending in a tricky right-hander (a possible overtaking spot), the turn in being under the darkness of the railway bridge. The pit lane is entered by carrying straight on, two lanes on the left of Arduthie Road being used, before a hairpin as tight as Leows @ Monaco leads you out onto the exit lane, where an existing left turn at traffic lights would make for an excellent feed-in to the track. The pit crews could store their equipment in the station car park, and the paddock could take up the rest of Arduthie Road. Another 1 km straight down Forest Drive, the road rising then cresting before running downhill into a blind 90 degree left-hander, another overtaking spot. This is followed by a more sweeping left under the overhanging trees on the inside, perhaps requiring a slight left or blend of the throttle, leading you onto the gently sweeping straight of Mill of Forest Road. This is where the daunting second half of the lap begins. 3/4 of the way down the straight there is a big crest/dip, the fastest cars perhaps requiring a lift to prevent lifting up at the front. The road then leads steep downhill into a sweeping left-right combo, the road flattening out at the apex of the left, where overtaking would perhaps be possible for the brave. A short and slightly sweeping straight along Low Wood Road leads into a 110 degree right hander with a slight downhill entry, then rising to a steep uphill on the exit. Next up is a flat out uphill right-hand kink before the road sweeps left as you plunge into the darkness of the canopy of the trees. This begins the fast uphill run through Dunottar Woods. A medium-length straight leads into a fast pair of left-right bends taken in around 4th gear at about 115 mph in an F3 car, slight braking being required before back on the throttle. Another brief break before a flat-out right kink and braking for a left, where on the exit you burst out into the sunlight again, then sweeping right for a short run to the final corner. The road is quite wide here and overtaking is possible into this 90 degree right. Tactics would play a part here in last lap duels, do you stay behind and slipstream on the run to the line, or make a huge lunge and defend all the way for the last km? I'm sure the track would be spectacular to drive and race on, and in future I might post some photographs and maybe even an in-road-car video movie to demonstrate the point! |

cool. Yeah, you could have some pretty challenging sections of track on the A90, assuming it's dual carriageway.
You could duck in between north and southbound lanes by removing sections of armco on the central reservation. Then just tarmac over the grass verge. That would be cool. You could have tight chicanes, fast chicanes, slaloms, esses, anything! |
