Issue 48 of Aus Muscle Car mag shows it's currently owned by Kevin Heffernan, still in it's Bathurst 84 silver livery......unrestored.

The story that Dick told Dad at the time was that the car came from Nixon-Smith, ex HDT, Dick told Dad that it was a Colin Bond car, but a LOT of people say that this car was actually the 72 Bathurst winning 28C Brock car, which was used as a T car at bathurst in 1973 after upgrading to 73 specs (big DCOE's running one choke, massive sprintmasters etc), and was run by Nixon-Smith in 1974. apparently he rolled it? Dad said it'd had the turret replaced before he bought it.. This car (28C) is now owned by Glenn Amos from lismore i believe, i REALLY want to have a look at this car at some stage, as dad has told me some identifiers that would confirm it was dads old car.. here's some pics of when dad had it: Dad sold it in late 1978 and went on to build a Gemini sport sedan with XU1 running gear and suspension.. we lost track of the torana and the last we heard it had been converted into a road car and written off in townsville.. who knows... |

Both the early JPS M3s ended up in NZ by late 1987. One went to Trevor Crowe, the other to John Sax. The Crowe car was repainted a very dark metalic blue, the Sax car was red/black/yellow. The Crowe car was entered for Bathurst 87 but was dsq, but with Jim Richards teaming up with Crowe for the (second) 87 Wellington Street Race which was part of the WTCC, the car qualified an impressive 6th against the squadron of works M3s, plus the two Texaco Sierras which were first and second (from memory!).
I have a couple of photos of the two M3s taken at Manfeild around 1990/91, by which time both were painted white. But Sax still had his car, while the other was owned by John Sorenson. So, to make a short story long, the car pictured would be the same one JPS sold to Crowe. |

I think you'll find that the car in this picture is the Crowe car. Motorsport shell #17 it had no external fuel fillers in its' JPS days, the rear airjacks are behind the rear wheels and the harness is secured to the rear parcel shelf whereas non motorsport shells had the harness secured to a crossbar in the cage. It was the sister car to my first M3 (ex Longhurst/Finauer) and it was used by Jim at Calder and Symmons Plains then it was sold to Crowe. It's the first M3 to set a pole winning lap time. I believe the car is now back in OZ.

John Sorenson. Now there is someone who seems to have vanished!

No, currently Zukanovic. Hoping to be ex-Zukanovic very soon.
And "completely original"? Other then the massive rebuild during 2009 perhaps.. |

Incredible!
Makes you wonder what other significant James Hardie 12 Hour cars are still kicking around. I think Mazda mostly kept or sold theirs to private entrants. What happened to Fitzy's Porsches? Did Ross Palmer hang on to the Dogbone Honda NSX? And what of that lovely Maserati Shamal? |
