Hey, those textured gravel traps look pretty nice... how'd you get them in Excel?

I've been watching and enjoying all of the creations posted in recent days by all of you...they are very coll-looking circuits....
Meanwhile, I've been working on another "Airport" -- remember, I'm a guy who would like to see something that might have a chance to be built... It is the Walesboro, Indiana, AAF...which is very close to Columbus, Indiana, the home of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart... This place is 40 miles from Indianapolis, 60 miles from Louisville and less than 90 miles from Cincinnati....thus it can draw from a metropolitan population of nearly 5 million people just by counting those three cities....and no one else in between them.... It is one mile off of Interstate 65.... The airfield is currently being used as a test track and also is the home of the manufacturing facilities of Arvin Industries...the company that was building Catalytic converters for cars...but they will go out of business next spring... Cummins Engine also "rents" the facility from Arvin for test purposes... I'm posting the site as it looks now...and will post my proposed track shortly: |

Now for one of my "proposed" circuits on this airfield near Columbus, Indiana (but I have created six different configurations....):
I happen to like this one the best because I think it has a good mix of fast sections plus some corner combinations that would require some downforce...thus it would be the full test of a sportscar's versatility... By the Way...the two wideest runways in the original image are 4,500 ft. long each.... |

To Pirenzo:
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in your response to my new circuit by posting the "Rally Track?" But I do have a couple that use a little less land...but not much.... Otherwise, I should just build an Oval if I'm not going to add some elements to it....but this airstrip doesn't give me a much pavement to work with as others I have posted.... |

Do you make your tacks in Excel TR?
There are loadsa little tricks there. Like for the wall round the oval. I just copied the track, and then pasted it back in, changed the colour to white, and then placed it over the top of the track. Then i changed the order to put it behind the grey track. Then i made it ever so slightly bigger so that the edges of the white were visible from behind the grey, and hey presto, it looks like a perfectly drawn wall Also the oval itself, if you go to autoshapes, then basic shapes and then select what looks like a rectangle with round corners, and then draw one of those, you get a little toggle that alteres how round the corners are, from sharp corners to totally rounded. Then you take a screenshot of your screen in Excel (press Print Screen on your keyboard, or the danish equivalent) and then paste the image into paint, you get better quality then. Obviously you have to resize it. I actually do all that last bit in Micrografx Picture Publisher, so that when i've resized it i can use a sharpen tool to sharpen up the image when it gets blurred by resizing. It's actually cos i was just about to post that anyway, i hadn't seen your track yet. When i did i thought i'd better have a better reason for making it in the first place, other than i felt like it. Because honestly, what real comment can you make about my track |

I picked Floyd Bennet Field for my new creation. I think I heard Tim about it and I read The Mole on ITV-F1 today who also mentioned it. Here it is -- fire away!

we were talking about the airfield. Nut that's quite good, even if the last few turns are a direct copy of the Hungaroring's final few corners

That is the location of Floyd Bennett Field in the New York City Area...
I don't know if you were aware as to how this came about, but this spawned from an "Options for the ALMS to Consider" for race courses in metro areas where they currently do not hold events.... I'd be interested in seeing how it overlays with the actual runways that are available there and the various structures in place....the venue is, after all, the NYPD training Academy, and I doubt that the city would let you buy them out to build arace track there... But the design is quite good...I like it a lot... |

Heres my latest fantasy track. Again it ended up rather short once i had finished it so i inserted a peice of track with a bridge that comes back round on itself back onto the race track. Then just to create one more overtaking spot i put in a hairpin at the end.
