Les Dalton should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Gerry Cains 3.5 Rover

Sad to read that Gerry's big beautiful rumbling Rover has been damaged.
I raced at the same meetings as Gerry way back in the late 90s, and at the Croft meeting in June of 96, he won the mod prod saloon race, and I won the Khumo BMW race, we were chatting after our races, and he offered me the Rover for £10K, if I had got that sort of money, I would have snatched his hand off, but unfortunately, I had a daughter going through Uni, (Nuff Said)
I remember he had a lovely "oldish" guy that used to look after his car at that time.
I shall try to post a photograph here if I can.
Regards from France,
Les Dalton.

Sorry Guys, can anybody remind me on how to post pictures on site?
Les.

The Oldish guy would have been Baz Moore, him and Gerry prepared the shell of my IROC-Z. The car was damaged too badly and I am sure will be back.

No Al, it was by Art Markus. (what ever happened to him?)
But he does say that he had tested some other falken cars only 3 years before this article and yours was among them.

Yes he did indeed, Art was good at this and respected the cars, I believe he returned to his roots down under.

Falken memories.

It's great to see so many names from this excellent series still around, still racing and still retaining the fond memories of one of the best championships I was ever involved with.
I used to run Gary & Andy Britnells RS2000 & Chevette HSR (with permissible single cam engine) and then when we went into National GpN with them in a pair of Cossies, ran Harry ???? (sorry!) in the bright yellow 4.5L SDi and Dave ???? in Andys old HSR. Also responsible for Ken Lark in the Monza (sorry!) briefly.
Here's a question though. I purchased at that time a really tidy, unarched, droop snoot RS2000 (factory orange) with a Tim Swadkin short stroke 2.0 Pinto lump from a Falken tyres competitor. Any clues as to who he was? I've been racking my brain on behalf of the guy that bought it from me.

Well, it's been 5 years since I wrote on here! Just watched a video on utube Brands 1991...my Mini is featured (yellow and blue).... Mainly being lapped!
Have not raced for ages, but always owned something special (ish). A Westfield Seight for 15 years odd, that's now gone and a Radical SR3 SL has now taken its place.

There is more than a few blasts from the past on this thread.
I ran my mk1 mexico in tru seal & budget rent a car when Brian was running the series.
I shared the running costs on the car with old pal Phil Wright in exchange for him to drive the car in super road saloons whilst i drove in mod prods.
One season we ran 36 meetings between us, we drove the car to most of these, only maintenance was oil & filter every 3rd meeting, didn't remove dizzy cap or plugs not nothing else. 100% reliable and bloody good fun to drive, great days.
Keep the thread alive. Regards Andy Pyke

1, Gerry Cain Rover SD1 sat in his garage.
2, Adrian Fuller Ford Capri now runs in group 1 touring cars.
3, David Fuller Ford Capri i think now owned by Ric Wood??
4, Alan Weyman Camaro need i say any more.
5, Ray West Manta 400 sat in garage.
6, Ray Wesy Opel Ascona written off at Snett 1994.
7, John Hill Manta sat in my workshop.
8, Brian Cox pug 205 Written off at Combe.
9, Phil Seaman Lotus Sunbeam sat in his garage.
10, Simon Light Capri sat in garage.
These are ones i can think off the top of my head which i know where they are. In its heyday there were probably ten capris ten escorts mk1 and mk2 6 fiestas 4 corollas 6 minis 6 rover sd1s 6 pug 205s novas astras and so on and some pretty interesting characters too! So where have they all gone to. Looking forward to any feedback.

Hi, I live in New Zealand and I believe I have the John Warren Bartley Green Capri that raced in the Falken Tires Mod Prod series in the 80s and 90s. It was imported into New Zealand in about 2008 by Mark Babb, who also raced in the series.

I am really interested in the history of this car as I want it's story to travel with it into the future. I believe it may have even won the series at least once.

I have raced it successfully in New Zealand for many years and am in the process of restoring it to the spec it raced in those days.

If anyone knows of the history of this car and can pass it on i'd really appreciate it

Further to my earlier post regarding having the ex John Warren Bartley Green Falken Tires Mod Prod Capri in New Zealand.

Here is a video of me racing it at the 2013 New Zealand Grand Prix event. On the second lap the commentators start talking about the car, they get totally carried away referring to it as an Andy Rouse car, sounded good for the crowd I suppose.

The Mustang that eventually beats me wasn't in our class, so in spirit the ex John Warren car racked up yet another win!
