Do you mean quite vague Steve, or silently vague... Surely you must know the year of the March, if 81, I suspect the ex-DB Motorsport car?

Hi all,
I am new to this forum. In fact , it's 911thillclimber who advised me to consult you ( Thanks Gerald ). I am considering the purchase of a Lola T490 VIN HU12. The present owner-seller hasn't researched the car's history. The car apparently needs full restoration. Before starting this operation, I would like to know if any of you would know anything about this particular car ? Origin, owners, history.... I don't know much about protos, in fact I race a factory Group 4 De Tomaso Pantera, but am considering a change to a lighter car ( Factory GR4 Pantera remains quite heavy despite all efforts ) . For those who are interested, see my amateur website on www.detomasogr4.com. Many thanks Patrick |

Patrick, to start you off, the 490 designation was used on the first 10 chassis, numbers 1 through 10. HU11 began the 492 designation. HU12 was sold on Oct 19 1977 to Southport Mmotor Spares. Original colour was white
hope this starts you off on a successful hunt. bob k. |

I saw it just the once in 1978 (Oulton Park 22nd July) when, according to the programme, the engine was tuned by PMED. John practiced the car but didn't start the race. By the start of the 1979 season John had sold the Lola and was racing a Martin BM17 in the same category. |

There! 10 x 10th's rocks!
We should have a 'T 490:492' thread all of our own...but this is IT! Graham Sorry, just spent 3 hours in the heady fumes of paint solvents..... Bloody cars will be the death of me yet. |

Lola T492 HU12
Hi Guys
I thought that this name rang a bell so asked Dad about it, sure enough he remembered John Bury having a substantial accident in the Lola. Dad went over and bought lots of the ancillary bits that were left undamaged (pedals, gear linkage, etc, etc). He was not sure what happened to the chassis, but remembered it being quite badly damaged, hence why John was not repairing it and was selling it off as parts. It looks like it got put back together at some point though. Cheers Richard |

Sort of! No missing the design similarities, but the engineering quality and materials are way over the 4 pots.
Clutch on its way soon, and the box can be fitted and the lot popped back into the prepped chassis. Rear suspension all ready except for the rear spring rates (going for 350 instead of the 550 lb/inch on the dampers at the moment). Still stacks to paint...nearly as long winded as the welding. Got to be back together by end Feb so I can prep my 911 for the hillclimb season. Steve: 185Kg. (Pinto is about 160Kg) |

A 2 litre 911 flat 6 can give about 180 bhp on webers but would be very cammy, so not good for a hillclimber, but this one for the Lola is 3200cc and has a proven 250 bhp/250 lbft on large webers.
I have a set of 40's for it which will give a lot deeper torque, very flat and from very low rpm. This is at the expense of power, but the engines in this form are exceptionally drivable and a bit like a steam engine just one long run of power through the rev range (to 6500 red line). The throttle response is much crisper with the webers than the normal injection (like my road 911 has) and it will have a lightweight clutch to help the cause. This should make the 550Kg weight Lola very easy to drive. |
