he clearly doesnt treat RacingPoint and AM at arms length as seen by both the sponsorship agreement between the two (i dont know the terms but i suspect they are more then favourable because of this connection) and that his own son drives for the team. this is for the tax man to decide but i dont see how these corps can be viewed as anything other then related. the technical term for this would be linked or associated corporations. a parent has two children...yes these children are separate entities but the parent is still the person in charge of both of them right? cause thats what the tax man believes. or f1 examples, the RP and AM situation is different to that of John Elkhan Ferrari CEO and his relationship with their sponsors. he doesnt have a seat on the Altira Group board and while he or his agent can treat with them they dont get to decide the internal workings of their sponsor. or take John Malone who owns Liberty Global and Liberty Media...one of those corps technically owns F1 but the more accurate description would be that the Chairman of both of those corps ( John Malone) owns and controls F1. imo this is just a function of how modern business is conducted. |

sure, but Stroll's ability to control and direct that sponsorship agreement, his ability to negotiate for both sides at the same time puts it somewhere in between them being one and the same and two completely sperate entities no? a more relevant question might be on whose financial statement will the new facility end up on? because if it is RP's then im curious what they are telling AM shareholders and investors? another side question...does Eddie Jordan still own the old Silverstone factory? once RP/AM move will there be an empty F1 base sitting there waiting for a new team to take up occupancy? |

Technicalities can be used to "win" on the internet, but real interest comes from understanding of the situation.
There is twitter for those playing the technicality game. For those who are interested in the interesting things I suggest the start point for reading any post is to understand what the posters is saying not trying to find where they are wrong. This is a perfect example. Technically we know Aston Martin doesn't own Aston Martin. It is interesting that they current F1 team is only in it's current state because they are intrinsically linked to the manufacturer. Something that we've known for ages yet we have managed to turn it into a massive bickering session. We are all guilty and we can all be better. |

Why is every thread around here turning into "continually updated companies house based pedantry discussion"?

too many smartasses?
At least the latest one is in the relevant team’s thread and not the how to fix F1 thread! |

With the confirmation of Aston Martin and Haas retaining the same driver lineups, this is the current grid for 2022:
Mercedes Lewis Hamilton George Russell Red Bull Max Verstappen Sergio Perez Ferrari Charles Leclerc Carlos Sainz McLaren Lando Norris Daniel Ricciardo Alpine Fernando Alonso Esteban Ocon Alpha Tauri Pierre Gasly Yuki Tsunoda Aston Martin Sebastian Vettel Lance Stroll Williams Nicholas Latifi Alexander Albon Alfa Romeo Valtteri Bottas TBC Haas Mick Schumacher Nikita Mazepin Only the second Alfa Romeo seat is unconfirmed, with Guan Yu Zhou the favourite for the drive but De Vries and Giovinazzi still genuine contenders. They may be others also in contention but I believe these three are the most likely candidates, and Zhou the favourite. |

Guess he's been shoved aside from F1, or they don't want him idle until Sainz moves(gets moved) on.

Or it shows that there are more racing series in the world than F1, perhaps?
Ilott has more chance of making it big in IndyCar than he (or any other up-and-coming F3/F2 driver) has in F1. And likely a much longer career, too. |

Reports coming out of Italy are indicating that the county may have to accept no Italian driver in F1. The confirmed departure of Giovinazzi is expected this weekend.
Roger Benoit has written - 'Formula 1 has "simply overwhelmed" the Ferrari-linked driver, and also committed a "mortal sin" in Turkey that Vasseur "will not forgive him for". "When the team orders came again in Austin, Giovinazzi obeyed immediately. Otherwise he would have been sacked," |

Still no closer to finding out who WILL take that seat. Zhou has been mentioned, but no more than that

Giovinazzi's had his chance, time for someone else.
He's not really up to it, no different to Ericsson who departed the team despite having better results. |

"Iltalian Jesus" just confirmed he won't be driving for Alfa/Sauber next year
I wonder who they will put in that seat, will they choose the Chinese money and pick Zhou? |

Oscar Piastri to join Alpine as reserve driver
'Alpine chief executive officer Laurent Rossi said: "Oscar's natural talent is clear to see. "We're proud and privileged to have him as our reserve driver next year." Piastri said: "I've proved myself in the junior formulas and feel I'm ready for F1."' |
