It's a legitimate penalty; they ignored a red light. Remember people have been disqualified for this in the past. Speaking as a Hamilton fan, I'm looking forward to him fighting through the field come Magny Cours.
On the other hand, if I paid attention to little red lights, I'd never get anywhere on time. |

As ive said earlier there is a serious problem with the design of those lights, thus causing the situation

Since last year the cars have had to have LEDs to tell the drivers about red, blue and yellow flags. Why can't they use them for the pit exit lights? |

Fair do's from my view on the penalties. Not noticing a red light quite rightly should be dealt with.

Not suprised really, when a Ferrari takes someone out its just an unfortunate accident but when someone hits a Ferrari they get slamed with penalty.

It isn't the same. However some will think it is. There is a thread about the 10s penalty in F1 now.

the design
of having two flashing lights above one and other Perhaps with a quick view the bottom was hidden behind a car and the top one was of I like the idea Duke - would work well providing it could be set up right |

A penalty seems fair.....and a reasonable penalty would be fair...
But if there is inconsisteny the whole thing begins to reek of favouritism... So does Kimi get a penalty for taking out Sutil at Monaco..? No. Its a racing incident and it wasn't a subtle one.... Then Rosberg and Hamilton get slammed with a 10 place grid penalty for a pit lane incident in Canada. This gets applied to the next race which means a double penalty in the sense that it stuffed their race in Canada and it will stuff their race in France..... With Regard to the red light situation Barrichello made the observation when he was pinged last year that the lights are difficult to see, particularly if you are following someone. Ifthat hasn't been addressed perhaps the FIA would like to be fined for negligence... The whole judicial situation in F1 is garbage and needs a serious revamp. |

Perhaps we should start a thread about spelling and see who really passes after an F1 race

If the lights are badly designed then this maybe fairly harsh, BUT Kimi and Robert both stopped. Lewis and Nico did not. I wonder what the thought process was for Lewis as he seemed to move to the left on purpose when he saw he could not stop in time, that may have been reaction or it may have been quick thinking to save a championship, I guess no one will ever know.
There is absolutly no comparison between this and Kimi into Sutil at Monaco, one was a racing incident at speed, the other was a proceedual issue exiting the pits. This is coming from a huge fan of McLaren and Lewis BTW, but fair is fair. |

Yes, it was rather interesting that when given the chance between taking Kubica or Kimi out, he chose Kimi. A very Schumacher like choice, in my opinion

I don't think Lewis would take himself out of the race just to remove Raikkonen from the running...
One thing I did find interesting was that Hamilton seemed to think he was on for an easy race, yet he'd been jumped in his pitstop by both Raikkonen and Kubica. I'm not sure it would have been as easy as he thought. |

If the penalty is for ignoring a red light - it appears LH didnt ignore it as he was trying to stop after allegedly seeing it too late. Harsh given that two stationary cars and a red at the end of the pitlane is an extremely uncommon situation.
Oh Well. Guess its a Ferrari 1-2 in France. Might watch it, might not.. James |
