https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-news/s...oints-in-2019/ Interesting to hear that Ticktum was actually the first choice for STR, but did not have sufficient superlincense points. So STR has to have Kvyat and we also have Kubica on the grid! Seriously! "Last year, it emerged that Dan Ticktum was actually Red Bull's top pick to race for Toro Rosso in 2019, but he could not secure enough super license 'points'." Me too. He still has a great deal to prove beyond the famous name. The Kvyat situation still completely bemuses me.....

Kyvat obviously did enough for Ferrari to convince STR to give him another chance

The story linked presupposes that Mick Schumacher will apply for a superlicence in 2020. If he did that, the you and they are correct that 10 points drops from his total
However, if he, and his management / Prema, has any sense, he will apply for the superlicence in 2019, where given the FIA ISC appendix L regs you score points from the three years prior to your application giving him the required 40 points required for a full superlicence in 2019. He also meets the criteria of having competed in 80% of a points awarding championship for the past two seasons. He fulfils the criteria for gaining an International A licence (which you must hold prior to applying for a superlicence) via two complete seasons in FIA F3 (5 points) plus 10 points in F4 in the past 3 years notwithstanding any discretionary points his ASN may award him. Ticktum required the points he believed were available for winning the Asian F3 winter series, which finishes in 2019, and would have given him the necessary 40+ points to apply for a superlicence in 2019. However, the series does not comply with the requirement of appendix L for points to be awarded, so the earliest he can get a superlicence is the 2020 season, depending on what points he can accrue during 2019 |

Anyway Brendon Hartley will be the Simulator development driver. Good choice IMHO

Far from being THE simulator/development driver, he will be one of four now signed by Ferrari to that function, alongside Davide Rigon, Antonio Fuoco and former Sauber and Mercedes junior driver Pascal Wehrlein.

Well he’s the most qualified, with his technical feedback and experience

So, is the season living up to expectation for Ferrari?

In typical style, the Ferrari drivers have gone public with claims that their 'dispute' is in the past.
So - fireworks between the two going into the first corner on Sunday then... |

Leclerc gets his contract with Ferrari extended to the end of 2024. That's long by modern F1 standards.
What are the chances of it lasting? |

Unless another top team manages to buy him out, I can see him staying for that if he keeps delivering

Ferrari have closed their factory as a result of the coronavirus.
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14...to-coronavirus. Hope they will be back in action soon. However without a GP for a month or two at least then it might be the best plan. |

Without F1 on for at least a month, there is no pressure to start working again. So they are doing the right thing here, taking this precaution

The suspension of all Ferrari production has been followed by FCA also ceasing production. If it was just F1, then it would merely be following the trend of the sport to cease output. This is all car production though and is a result of employee protection and supply chain issues - not because the racing is postponed. |

So...
Taking an arbitrary link point to the Vettel thread, rumours abound on Twitter/FB and in the Italian media right now that Sainz will be the new Ferrari driver in 2021. Go on, who saw that coming? |

Clearly didn’t see it coming, but wasn’t The linked to Ferrari before? I might have imagined that.

I thought he was way back as well. But thinking about it, wasn't he a Red Bull guy previously? Guess Marko didn't call that right, although I don't remember him performing that well.
Maybe the stuff we sadly don't hear about much sold Ferrari on him. He might be a close driver in style to Leclerc and/or give great technical feedback. One great race driver and a great feedback guy could really help a team with limited testing. Sadly we don't really hear about guys like de la Rosa who can seriously help a team get their car dialed in perfectly. It's an important part of the team but costs make having that 3rd driver run instead of a paying guy tough. |
