I think if you look through Marco's results you will find 2 podium finishes in most of the years he's competed in Indycar. I counted 20 podiums in his first 10 years, though may have missed one or two. The past three years have been lacking in results, I'll admit. He had a nice run at Pocono, passing Dixon for 3rd I think at some point mid race. Faded a bit to finish 7th. I just don't get the hate. He's a solid driver, rarely gets in trouble or has an issue with his competitors. Deserves a bit more respect I think.

I never cared for his dad or his grandfather so I've carried on that family tradition. And one could argue that he's the least talented pilot in the AA stable right now.

I hate! I hate all Andrettis but the results of the elder ones are certainly more respectable than the young one.

Honestly I don’t know what coyne’s thinking of with ferrucci. He’s entered plenty of bad drivers before, many worse than him, but none with bullying teammate racially and intentionally driving into him baggage, and that’s ignoring all the stuff with the mobile phone and trum’s re-election campaign.

Any thoughts on who’ll be in the second Schmidt for the rest of the season? And can hinchcliffe beat Wickens in the championship?

Wickens is currently 6th, with 391 points and Hinchcliffe 9th with 338 points, so he could easily finish ahead of Wickens.
Here's a link to the points system, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IndyCa...p_point_system Plus there is a, Pole Award: 1 point Leading At Least One Lap: 1 point Most Laps Led: 2 points. So there are a number of permutations. Last edited by bjohnsonsmith; 21 Aug 2018 at 18:38. |

That's a shame, wonder if it's related to the extent of damage done to the car at Pocono. In the CART days most front running teams had spare chassis for both cars if a two car team, don't know if that's the norm these days. Perhaps SPM just wants to concentrate on placing Hinch as far up in the championship as possible. No idea how sponsorship deals work. Would have thought they were committed to having a Lucas car at each event.

This interview with Sam Schmidt indicates that the sponsors are ok with this plan, and that they and the team are concentrating on making sure that Robert Wickens and his family and friends are doing well, as well as the rest of the team. https://www.motorsport.com/ca/indyca...ovals/3162178/ |

It's still very much up in the air, regarding Alonso/McLaren and next season.

Yeah, think the AA/McLaren tieup is tough given the load on HPD currently and no way the Indy bosses will let AA have both engines in their stable. Think it leaves then having to work with ECR for more than a just Indy program. If you believe Robin Miller there has been some rumblings from Honda Japan that a McLaren Honda would NOT be ok with the big bosses. HPD gets to make the decisions but they are still a subsidiary of Honda. But apparently they have nothing against Alonso getting their engines.

At Indy he celebrated 30 years with WISH TV, which makes the whole mess even worse.

And it seems like the story gets weirder and possibly very very wrong. It seems like Daly is fighting back and saying that's not at all what happened and Lamey is incorrect in his story. It all seems very fishy as to why what Lamey RECENTLY to a story he was recounting from 35 years ago after asking if the mics were off. Feels to me like no one wanted to research and loved the "legend" and took his word for it.
On a side note, the Racer article quotes Daly as saying he said the word in question once but had no idea it was as inflammatory in the US. Was the n-word that common a phrase as he references? From Racer article https://racer.com/2018/08/23/daly-re...l-slur-claims/ "The facts are: In the early ’80s, after I had recently relocated to the United States, I was interviewed by radio reporter Larry Henry and I was asked about my situation with my new American team. I responded by explaining that I was a foreign driver now in America, driving for an American team, with an American crew, and with an American sponsor – and that if things did not go well, the only “n***** in the wood pile” would be me. “At the time, I meant that I, as the new foreigner on the team, would shoulder the blame and I would be the scapegoat. This was not in any way shape or form meant to be a racial slur. This phrase was commonly used in Ireland, Britain, and Australia.* “When I used that phrase in the early ’80s, I had no idea that in this country that phrase had a horribly different meaning and connotation, as it was commonplace in Ireland. After moving to the United States, I quickly learned what a derogatory term it was. When I was first informed of this, I was mortified at the offense I might have caused people. I have therefore never used the word since. I made this mistake once, but never again." If so, that seems like a reasonable explanation to me and someone who made a mistake, did not try to say anything other than my mistake and I have learned why it's not ok in my new racing home, and I will not say such things again. That should be what everyone strives for in understanding and being able to teach others. Not wait 35 years and decide, sorry, remember that one time way back when, when you probably didn't even say that? Well I think we have to let you now. |

Definitely seems like Daly isn't pulling any punches and isn't hiding from his past either. Sadly I think it will be all for naught as the headlines will still read racial slur uttered (but please read more further to get the whole story somehow missing)

Ganassi won't revert to a three car team. Reading between the lines, that rules out any collaboration with Alonso and McLaren.
