400-040
OK, i'll get some pictures up this week. I might be changing the intake to an individual throttle body type that i have, so i'll be spending some "quality time" with it. (one more reason these things are never, ever done...)

Griff 400 FIA registration procedure
I am curious if anyone here knows the procedure to obtain FIA papers. I have a 1966 griffith 400 (4006055), which I've owned since the early 80's and am considering historic racing.

Griffith 400-6-055
Thank you John. I've attached a few pictures of my Griffith. Still has the original 1965 JA Pearce wheels and bodywork as I purchased it. It has the COBRA kit (306HP) but the nitrous kit kicks this up "a little" .. Used to race this in Solo II (autocross) but 3:07's do not make good autocrossing, so I installed 3:77 4HU from a jag ..

Welcome WAB,not wanting to put the car down, but you'll have to loose the "Cam Tail" before applying for HTPs.Thats before you strip out the Nitrous etc.Is the car 66 or, as you suggest by reference to the"Original 65 wheels" a 65?. 65 being the cut of date of course.

Whilst Terry is of course correct I rather like the honesty of this car, its certainly not pretending to be FIA compliant!

Fascinating Thread, spent a few hours tonight reading it, after a converstaion about FIA cars today...
I can just imagine the FIA having fun with the Sagaris racers in 30-40 years time <LOL> |

Gentlemen thanks for the comments .. sounds like some soul searching will be in order before I take out the saws and fiberglass to remove Kamm tail and flared wheel wells to be FIA compliant, especially since this is a 1966 car (#55 of 57 griffith 400's). I know I can autocross it w/SCCA, and it appears HMSA (historic motor sports assoc) will let me race pretty much as is.

Then I would have thought that to be your best option considering the cars age, just enjoy it for what it is ?

This is interesting, especially for the current owner of the car!

No pic's from SPA yet. I have loads, but not putting up of the 2 in the 6 hours cos much work gone in on the new fia body mods - so not really my place to do this. At least 4 competing over the weekend (2 in 6 hours had issues so did not finish where their laps time would have put them trouble free (maybe a podium for the Shipman car). |

You building one then!?
If mine comes out it will be for Barrys race - but to Win it (can't have Phil J just turn up and have NO competition in that Hotrod thing. But car will be just and engine swap away from current fia. |

Patience is a virtue
Judging by the amount of them that struggle to finish races, could well be a business opportunity there! |

The issue the 2 Griffs had in the 6 hours this year were, just one of those thingsthat can happen (to win you need to have NO real issue and run a very good pace), one needed a webber replaced (weird) and the other had a holed radiator that need replaced. I think the Green one (John Shipmans was looking good for a possible 3rd without the carb issue). If they had Cobra homologated brakes they would be finishing higher. + Going on from the above the blue one had a disc shatter (lost a 3rd of it) at VERY High speed!!! - so they were lucky not to crash and that needed replacing too. |

I beg to differ, both of Joe Wards cars had the standard type brakes fitted but with Hawk front pads and collated rear shoes--nothing trick apart from the allowed cooling duct's incorperated in the back plates.
I was under the impression that Webbers had never been homologated for FIA events which is one of the current issues. |

Why are you so interested if you do not have one to race??? The Nigel Reuben cars are alot faster than the ones from ten year back. Brakes HAVE ALWAYS been and issue on Griff (for longer races) |

Both of Joes cars won the Six Hour,no problems with brakes whatsoever despite knocking out sub 3 min's.
I have been informed [by someone who Doe's know] that Webbers are under investigation. |
