Or even better a f/glass Karmann Ghia body? Everyone had a Skoda...
Some have suggested it should race 'naked'.. This is just another chapter in this car's book of life! Don't you just love old race cars. |

Went to the Retro Show today for some bits and a look around.
chatted briefly to a chap with a fab Crossel (sp), an original that had a BMW engine/FT 200, but now a Holbay twin cam/Mk9. Really nice car. In the middle of the conversation I said I had a Lola T 490 that was a Skoda etc, and he said, 'the one Tony Dickinson had?' Small world. Or does 10-10ths get everywhere? Should get all the fuels done this week, then the full electrics, then the rest of the induction as the Webers will have a full rebuild. This never ends! |

Well at least you could tell him which chassis it was...dose anyone know how to contact Paul Barrow who set up the site ref Croft Racing70s ???if so let me know please...anyway when will the Skoda Porsche be ready we want to see it.....

My plan is to run the Lola up Loton Park hillclimb in late July 09.
12 weeks to get it ready. If I can get the webers re-built soon then I hope to run the engine in 6 weeks time. That will leave the suspension set-up and the wheel refurb left to do. I wanted to run it before then originally, but there is so much detailed work and bespoke engineering to do! |

Yes they are, I was too brief.
I prefer the A meets anyway, but esp for this Lola this year. The B meets in July ar5e not the best, but I can treat them as a practice day/weekend. I need a target to shoot for, and I know Loton so well it seems the best date in the year. A private day at Curb will be enjoyed befre though! |

Gulp! All nervous now!!
I'm in the mysterious world of Porsche triple choke webers, but emerging out of the mist somewhat the wiser, but certainly got them sorted out. Thought I would have to buy some £2500 PMO's from the USA. As ever with 911's, found all the parts in California. Target is to have the engine splutter into some form of life and the suspension sorted by the end of April. That means the oils finishing, the fuels finishing and the electrics doing from scratch. Easy then. It's my birthday very soon, so maybe I'll get a magic wand. |

Had a big surprise tonight when alan Humberstone rang me to let me know he had heard of the car and had tracked me down. Power of the internet.
He wanted to set the records straight on the car, and the info he gave me has cleared a few 'issues'. He is happy for me to share this with you. All the history is correct from Ted Tolman to Tony Dickinson and the sale of the TD 'skoda' car tub to Alan's father Harry. The car was built using the body out of the Dr Enderby moulds in carbon and such like and had a few problems with the shell setting in the mould! That fixed the car was sorted with a 500 bhp Mount tune engine and intercoolers to both sides. The car raced at Brands Hatch (any pics anyone?) where the car was found to be 'terrible' in the front end. Alan spend a considerable amount on the new front with Chris Crawford, based in London. The tub had air jacks (hence the holes in the tub front) and such like. Alan raced the car again and had a heavy crash writing-off the car (and the tub). The car was rebuilt with many parts transfered to a second-hand T 492 tub, the tub I have on the car. He does not know the chassis number of this car. The car was sold to Brian at Autoquip in 2001 when Alan moved to Spain. We know the recent history since. So.... the actual car I have can be traced to HU 6 T 490, but it is not that car! Interestingly, when I spoke to Tony Dickinson he felt the tub was another with bits transfered over, and not his tub, #HU6. Thus T 490 HU6 is destroyed, so I cannot claim that chassis number. I will advise Lola accordingly. BUT: which car WAS used as a donar? The donar car was in full S2000 trim. Sad overall, and a bit dissapointing, but some more factsafterall. Graham. |

to recapp
the crashed car was rebuilt with " a tub" or was built on a complete S2000 roller? if it was just a tub 1 can assume the Hu6 lineage rolls thru to this other tub as the car is a rebuild IF the crashed car is " binned" and parts like eng /gearbox rear suspension etc fitted to another s2000 roller then HU6 is no more |

Alan said the car was very heavily crashed (Tony Dickinson said the same to me months ago), and the T492 was bought in S2000 spec (he did not say the car was a roller, or complete etc) and parts from the HU6 car transfered.
This is borne out by the front suspension (very special according to Alan) and the March F2 rear passing over to the 'new' car. Remember HU6 was well modified from the original spec by this time to say the least. I presume the HU6 tub was destoryed and scrapped. The tub I have I think is the new one, and it has taken a knock in the driver's side rear and the steel bulkhead has been cut and repaired along with the adjacent alloy skins. The thing that still confuses me is that there is no sign at all of a chassis plate being rivited to the tub side pod in the usual position. Normally after several years there would be corrosion/polish marks in the are, but there is none at all.(just the rivet holes). Maybe this one will remain a mystery. HU6 I think is dead and gone. This tub will possibly never get identified... Lola Heritage have removed the T 490 HU 6 from the register, but have left me with a car of unknown number, but it is a T 492 now! Anyway, old race cars never die, they just become hillclimb cars! Graham. |

Lots has happened to the prep of the car, flat-out for first hillclimb in mid July 09.
Getting grief over the old Dymag wheels about all old mag wheels are cracked, so they are down with Dymag for checking. Getting close now to the race day in mid July, and much closer to looking like a car!
Fab Dymag wheels crack tested and refurb'd at the factory no less for £348 the set! Found one front that is bent and has been welded in the life of the car, but I have 2 spares which they are doing for me. Suspension-by-string today, rolling road in 2 weeks time and a holiday for wife and me! Had the car for exactly a year now....bet Drifty would have finished this project yonks ago! |

I would have finished quickly done cos i would have paid guys to do it i dont like working on cars im a driver not a spanner man
wheel rcrack test & refurb is not cheap - the chromation would be around 25-30 quid a rim crack testing depends on X ray sonic or 2 part spray method and the cost varies greatly |

is that rear wheel sticking outside bodyline?
driveshafts will need a bit of negative angle but u can alter that but lifting gearbox up on the bottom plate if it is a concern |

All 4 wheels are outside the bodt lines, esp the rear. The suspension travel on compression stops before the tyre hits the arches, so this year the car will ride about 1'' too high.
This year (all of 4 meetings) will be shake-downs for 2010. The negative I found surprised me. The length of the shafts have fallen short! At ride height (as simulated by the solid struts instead of coil-overs for set-up here) the drive shafts will not fully seat in the hubs/wheel bearings in the rears. They will not extend to allow everything to seat properly. I am very surprised by this as I was sure I had checked this out ages ago. I need to look closer at this this week before it goes to be tuned ! (maybe on a rolling road). For now I can add a spacer to allow a metal-to-metal connection in the whole assy, but something is very different in the suspension assy as if the rear uprights are too widely spaced. Condition is on both sides equally. I've always been nervey about these shafts and might re engineer with bespoke parts over Xmas using Porsche parts. The plan for the body will be to widen the wheel arches and make it look far more 'Porsche 908' possibly with fins and silver/Martini colours. |

I've always been nervey about these shafts and might re engineer with bespoke parts over Xmas using Porsche parts.i would suggest that you do this now u may ***** about the cost but cheaper than a shaft or CV breaking on rolling road doing more damage to other parts plus delay in project= penny wise pound foolish
The plan for the body will be to widen the wheel arches and make it look far more 'Porsche 908' possibly with fins and silver/Martini colours. wunderbar- will you add a rear wing? |
