Also, commentators on the test yesterday indicated Helio's only running the 500 (again, so far - seems likely he might run the Indy GP but AFAIK that has not (yet) been stated for 2019).

I doubt very much, whether this AFP device would have saved Justin Wilson, or prevented the injury Felipe Massa sustained.

We'll never know, but IIRC the chunk of debris that hit JW came down from above and wouldn't have been deflected by this device. The piece that hit Massa came up from the track at a lower trajectory, so *might* have bounced off this thing, I guess.


I'm willing to give IndyCar the benefit of the doubt here though. No way they'd randomly install this thing without having done a lot of testing first, so presumably it will deflect certain types of debris under certain circumstances, which is better than nothing.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it affects drivers heads with air resistance around the big ovals. I don't think it will be minimal.

I'm guessing this device is to deflect cars that are landing on top of another car, like it hits the tire about to roll up on the driver and deflects it a little to the side? Or large debris flying toward a driver going through a wreck? Seems like a solution for a small percentage of the accidents, but for the most scary of situations.

Sky used to show IndyCar before BT Sport, so maybe it will go back there?

I'd probably be happy with Sky, can probably cancel my BT Sport subscription. But as long as it ends up somewhere. And they talk during the many many ad breaks, as they tend to fill in the gaps of what the US commentators haven't been saying for whatever reason.

And preferably not Eurosport given the coverage levels in the last days of ChampCar.

There's no news on Latin American broadcasters. IndyCar is apparently bargaining hard for the possibility of a Mexican driver.

Chilton was on the radio this morning plugging the series and Carlin. I assume that they must have some sort of broadcast plan for that to be worthwhile?

Pato O'Ward is the most obvious candidate, but after being cut loose/dumped by Harding Steinbrenner Racing, he's still without a ride AFAIK.

Not that i’m an expert in this or anything, but it really doesn’t seem right that o’ward Has no seat but herta jr does. I hope that juncos turn up to more than a couple of races
