This may sound stupid but, where is chassis #043? The one used by Mark Skaife, Todd Kelly and Greg Murphy.

Sorry to back track, there are 3 Glen Seton sierra's built
GSR 1 Raced early in the piece, rolled and converted to supertourer and raced by Ellery. Now in Tasmania being brought back to group A spec GSR2 Rob Tweedie I believe still 4 sale GSR3 Driven at Clipsal 500 and stored for 12 years untouched prior raced exclusively in 1992 |

Any chance you could give a slightly more detailed race history of the three chassis such as where they made their first race appearance? Also, are those the actual chassis names? |

Hi William, some time back you asked me to provide some info re BMW chassis numbers. If you get hold of a book by the name of The Essential BMW 6 Series Enthusiasts Companion by Jeremy Walton you'll see a complete listing of Group A 6 series shell numbers and their team details.
I'll let you know when I find anything else you might be interested in. |

All the sierra's built by GSR had there first race at bathurst. In actual fact to my knowledge the first sierra built had no number. I can definitely say though that the second sierra built (tweedie) is GSR1 chassis number and the last built in GSR 2. I'm not sure when the roll happened to the first sierra but according to Glen it was very early in the piece after not many races at all. This is apparently when it was converted to supertourer spec for Ellery. Quite possibly the roll you are refering to may have been to the second car (Tweedies)??
Definetly the last car debuted at Bathurst 89 and raced all the Bathurst events including 92. This car has definetly never been rolled and the least tampered with according to Glen. |

Considering Seton's first race in a Sierra was Amaroo Park in 1989, does this indicate that GSR didn't build that first Sierra, to be debuted at Bathurst it would have had to be built and run originally by someone else.
I was of the impression that the car involved in the Lakeside 1989 crash was close to a write-off, if not one. Considering 2-Litre racing didn't start in Australia until 1994, this car wouldn't have been converted to that spec for the Ellery's at that time |

Not sure about all the cars making their debut at Bathurst, I was pretty certain that the original car was put together in the new GSR workshop over the summer and made its race debut at the 1989 Amaroo ATCC round. The car raced at Amaroo, Symmons and Lakeside (incidentally, it won the 'Best Presented Car' award at Amaroo and Lakeside) before the massive accident at Lakeside. It seems odd that this shell would be repaired and sit idle until 1993 when Ellery first ran it.
Seton made his next ATCC appearance at Sandown in a new car (GSR1, which I think I also read somewhere was Ford Motorsport shell RS155) which he used for the rest of the ATCC. Seton did the .05 500 at Sandown with John Goss, but I'm not sure which car was used. GSR ran two cars for the first time at Bathurst in 1989. IIRC, these two cars can be differentiated by the angle of the front tow hook. GTRMagic once mentioned that he remembered that a crashed Seton car was repaired on a jig made by Celette, which resulted in the car sporting a Celette logo for the rest of the year. The crash that led to this happened at Amaroo in 1990 during practice. |

I thought the 1st GSR car was a Rouse 'kit', like most of the Oz cars at the time (Excluding DJR, Moffat/Eggenberger, the Wolf Longhurst & Wolf Peanut Slab cars), could be wrong though...

I was under the impression all were built from kits supplied by Rouse. I'm not to sure of the history behind the first GSR maybe the boys in Tassie can shed some light. Definetly tweedies car and the last sierra (GSR2) did the majority of racing. GSR2 hads 20 rounds of the ATCC including Bathurst in its logbook with first race Bathurst 89. Competed bathurst 89,90,91,92 ie 92 by Parsons when Seto went to falcon. Seton stated himself that all shells were built up using parts from Rouse and UK most of which are AP racing.

Terry does own one Godzilla, Bob Forbes owns one, and there is a promo car that is owned by Dave Nolan. Dave had the car up for sale for a while and probably could be talked into parting with it for the right money. It never actaully raced but is pristine condition. That's all I know of.

At least one, the 1991 race winner, went to an Asia touring car series.

Yes Group C he does - I believe its the Olofsson/Crompton #2 car though, while the #1 car is owned by Terry Ashwood and on display at the Bathurst Museum (last time I was there anyway!)

True that - the board for the car at Bathurst say it was Skaife's car in 1992 and won the ATCC before becoming #1 for the enduros.

To back track to the GSR cars, Tweedie owned and raced the Super Tourer at one point before IIRC leasing it to Kurt Kratzmann for a season.
Therefore - did at one point Tweedie own two GSRs? |

Yep. Definetly Tweedie did own both the sierra's at one time and sold the first one off (supertourer).
