Hello to all
I thank you for aceuillir me on your forum I appealed to your big knowledge of the history(story) because I am in search of information, of photos, owners' names of Brabham BT 21/28 chassis AM 199 who seems t-il belonged to Roy Lane who run(roamed) in Hill climbs Transformed seem t-il by Roy Lane in Repco Techecraft in 1967 I was able to glean some information which I wish to verifier to obtain a passport FIA According to the elements which I was able to find, because these automobiles all had a tempestuous past and in many a time transformed to adapt itself to the changeable regulations. It is about Brabham BT 21/28 modified on the basis of a BT 14 HCS - serie FL-1-65 II (it seems that he(it) had 2 produced chassis 1 for Australia FL - 1 - 65 - I and the chassis of this car produced for England) - N of chassis AM199 - Motors Arch source I give you little of information which I have but that I cannot the verifier 1965 - John et David Bridges 1966 - Brian Eccles - 3eme du Championnat 1967/1968 - Roy Lane qui la modifia pour le compte de son ecurie Techcraft Repco en allongeant le chassis pour mettre le V 8 Buick 1969 - Jim Johnstone 1970 - Jonh Scott walker 1971 - Malcom Dungworth La voiture a ensuite était vendue au USA 1971 - Don Drosco de Monterey - Californie (restaurée en 1995) 1998 - Jean Zuppan de Portland - Orégon 2002 - Jim Schnelle de Seattle (restaurée) a participée au Derek Bell Trophy 2006 - Jonathan Burke - Retour en Angleterre où elle fut de nouveau restaurée par Peter Burnand Grosvenor Garage 2008 - propriétaire actuel 1 victoire Ã* Silverstone le 30/03/1968 en FL Roy Lane 1 victoire Ã* Silverstone le 22/03/1969 en FL Roy Lane 1 victoire Ã* Croft le 15/03/1970 en FL Willie wood Thank you for your precious help Very cordially Excuse me for my English Patrice Royet Www.patriceroyetconsulting.com |

A very interesting history - but not everything is right.
> 1 victoire Ã* Silverstone le 22/03/1969 en FL Roy Lane Lane won this race in the 1969 TechCraft-Buick, not the BT14/21. > 1 victoire Ã* Croft le 15/03/1970 en FL Willie wood Wood won this race in his ex-Hepworth Brabham BT11A-Buick, not the BT14/21. Jonathan Burke told me that Don Orosco bought the Brabham in 1995, not in 1971. He was unaware of its history between 1971 and 1995. In fact, Jonathan believed it to be a completely different BT14. |

Patrice, anything is possible between 1971 and 1995! Is it definitely the Malcolm Dungworth car?
Jonathan bought his BT14 from Jim Schnell (Seattle Washington) in early 2005. Is that definitely the car you have now? Why do you describe your car as a BT21? |

Brabham
Dear Allen
Find attached the presentation(display) of Bonhams to Goodwood in 2008 Can etre it will light(enlighten) you .................................................................................................... Lot 360: 1967-69 Techcraft Repco Brabham-Buick BT21 Sprint and Racing Single Seater Sports, Competition & Collectors Motor Cars, Bonhams (19th September 2008) [View all lots in this auction] Roy Lane was a highly-regarded Warwickshire engineer who came to great prominence within the British sprint and hill-climb scene during the later 1960s. In 1968 he ran a gleaming orange Repco Brabham BT14 which he modified to accept a 3.5-litre Buick V8 engine. For 1969 he then built a development of this car using as its basis a Repco Brabham BT21 production Formula 3/Formula B chassis supplied brand-new from the triple-World Champion?s famous New Haw works adjacent to the Brooklands track in Surrey. Hill-climb historian Chris Mason wrote in his superb book ?Uphill Racers? (Bookmarque Publishing, 1990, ISBN 1-870519-08-06) ?Roy Lane showed off his spotless new TechCraft-Buick ? Brabham BT21/28 based and with only two wheel drive after all ? with a race win at Silverstone?. He then went on to star as one of the major protagonists in the annual RAC British Hill-Climb Championship, eventually achieving back-to-back Championship titles in 1975-76 driving a McRae-Chevrolet GM1. We understand that this TechCraft-developed Brabham BT21 offered here was a Roy Lane car and converted by him and his TechCraft operation to accommodate the V8 Buick engine. It was acquired by the current owner in 2002 in the West Country, and was totally restored to high standards by Hansford Engineering for circuit racing within the Historic Sports Car Club?s popular Derek Bell Trophy competition from 2003 to 2006. The car has also been raced at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Modifications from original Brabham design centre upon the engine bay at the rear of the chassis frame which now ? we are advised - houses a 430bhp 3.9-litre Buick V8 engine, driving to the rear wheels via a Hewland FG400 transaxle gearbox. The car has been maintained to ?a prestige standard? for its present owner/vendor by Peter Burnand of the Grosvenor Garage company. The car has benefited from a complete engine rebuild, while all steering, brakes, fuel and oil tanks and electrical wiring systems have been similarly serviced. The glassfibre bodywork is finished in green and gold ? similar to the preferred livery of the Brabham Racing Organisation Formula 1 and Formula 2 teams themselves, and the condition of the engine is described by the vendor as ?excellent ? still running in?. This is a very interesting single-seater which would certainly reward any competent driver. It should be able to compete with heavier full 5-litre Formula 5000/Formula A cars of similar vintage, and it would offer a successful bidder some very enjoyable single-seater competition across a broad spectrum of events and venues. |

Patrice, that is the 1969 TechCraft, not a BT14.
The history of John Bridges, Brian Eccles, Roy Lane, Jim Johnstone, John Scott Walker and Malcom Dungworth does not belong to that car. The history of Don Orosco, John Zuppan, Jim Schnell and Jonathan Burke does not belong to that car. The Bonhams car is the 1969 TechCraft which has been in historic racing for some years now. I saw it in 2006 when it was owned by Mike Gatt. |

For some reason I found myself needing to check Brabham BT21 detail this morning and noticed a post detailing the cars built in 1967. There is a mention of certain chassis numbers missing history; I can help with BT21/24. It went to us at Winfield - we had nos 24 and 28; Tico Martini and Mike Knight and Richard Knight drove them both that year, though Mike usually drove 28; Tico raced 24 and Richard took it over when Tico decided to concentrate on building his own cars.

Jonathan Burke still owns his BT14 and will be racing it this weekend.
Patrice, you really need to change the history of your car on your website. You own the 1969 TechCraft-Buick, not a Brabham BT14. |

Dear Patrice
Lane sold the TechCraft-Buick to John Cussins for 1970 and it may have gone to Gray and Agnes Mickel for 1971. I cannot confirm that is the same car that Mike Gatt owned in 2006 but that was certainly the impression I came away with. However, Gatt's car may have been a different TechCraft or a different Brabham BT21. The AM199 number on your car may not be correct either. There is a Brabham BT21 in Australia that has the number AM199. The vendor at the auction needs to tell you more about this car; in particular you need to know its last few owners so its complete history can be traced. Cordialement Allen |

This car is a TECHCRAFT NOT a Brabham. It was a spare unused chassis constructed by Ken Nicholls for Roy Lane. The Arch motors Number "appeared during a prevoius ownership" The Techcraft Brabham Buick has been owned for a long time by Peter Voight

Steve Wilkinson, who has unfortunately been banned from this forum, an action I find baffling, has done some research and identified five cars that were either called TechCrafts, run by Lane in that period or modified by Lane's company in that period. They are the BT14, the TechCraft-Buick, the TechCraft-BRM, a BT30X and a BT21C. We have been able to trace all five of those cars to the present day, so yours is not one of them.
Has Mike Gatt told you where he bought the car? I'd suggest you work backwards from Gatt until you find out its origins. Allen |

Patrice, the HSCC papers should be with the car and they describe it fully, including the two owners immediately before Gatt. I suggest you read those.

My farther is Dick Crosthwaite.
He bought the car from Peter Bloore in about 1975 The car is definitely bt21-6 I have just been looking at the chassis plate. The car was not very old when we bought it. So would be surprised if the history was mixed up back then. From my little research Bev Bond drove a few different BT21s |

The car is BT21C-17 however the rear of the car was changed in the factory to BT23 specs under the supervision of Ron Tauranac to accommadate the V8 3.5 Buick engine, hence the car is know as BT21/23C-17 |
