Just two weeks after Le Mans, there'll (provisionally) be an impressive 57 cars turning up at Watkins Glen - very close to matching Daytona's entry.
https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/5...-watkins-glen/ And here are the BoP changes for GTP: https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/i...-watkins-glen/ edit: broadrun beat me to it |

Tied for most ever in the 6 Hours, with the last time GTP came to the track

I had the Glen 6H very much on my radar last year but not this time (going through a bit of a flagging burn out I guess) but that'll be a bummer race! Expecting lots of contact though.

I would love to be at the Glen this year, but alas, it looks like work will not allow me to. Sure hope this is an indicator on what the car count will be at the Petit Le Mans this year.

50+ cars at the Petit will be bonkers again! We might better 2011's record and see P3 cars being put on a reserve list (possibly determined by pre-qualifying).

The Mayor of Hinchtown will be a guest driver in MX-5 Cup this weekend at Watkins. That is a great addition to the grid!

Interesting to note at Watkins Glen. GTD cars are lapping in 1 min 46 in to half with lower half of the grid in 1 min 47.
Lambo Super Trofeo and Porsche 992 Cup cars are lapping in 1 min 47s as well! |

The Glen has long straights, where unrestricted cup cars get an advantage over GT3.

I think it looks great, and really enjoy the customer programs from Porsche because they have more freedom on the liveries. The F.A.T. sticker looks good too!

... and everytime you see that livery in a WEC race, it will also remind you that there is another racing series with that sponsorship.
Mr. Doornan, you sneaky devil you... |

From S365 today
***Doonan revealed that there’s an entry waitlist for this year’s season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans, as was the case in the opening three Endurance Cup rounds of the season, including the much-publicized Rolex 24 at Daytona. ***Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is able to accommodate a maximum of 54 entries. “We have several teams that want to come to Petit that for the moment won’t be able to fit, as of today,” said Doonan, who described the teams as a variety from European entrants to teams wanting to add a second car for the ten-hour season finale. So guess we'll see 56 or more given their desire to ONLY race the number of entries as per their safety data |

Pro cars being at the top is expected. That's where all the best drivers are and where the money is.

Of course, but there have been times this the year when the non-PRO cars were at the top and that was cool and amusing. We often mentioned it.

Most of PA cars were qualified by Silver or Bronze drivers, that explains the difference. I'm not sure however what's the benefit of doing that in the race itself. Quali drivers are the starting drivers as well? If that's the case it's indeed better to have an Am first since this isn't an endurance race.

That must mean Silver and Bronze drivers are generally slower than Gold and Platinum drivers. I'll remember that for the future. Thanks.

Wasn't the idea to point out the obvious without adding anything else For example, in case of the 27 Lexus who is the quicker driver - Sorensen or De Angelis? Obviously Sorensen but De Angelies qualified the car so I asked what's the benefit of that. Am starting driver instead of Pro?
