Must be the same guy - was around '84/85 when he was in the Capri and I'm sure it was one of Dad's old cars.

GBRM we had one of your Dad's old cars in the workshop a few times. It was the Magnum (flat fronted Firenza) still in the Vauxhall race team colours. It was owned by Adrian ..... can't remember his name. He has a number of cars his latest is a Cortina Mk1.

Thanks - unfortunately very bad Vauxhall colours for a replica!!
I think there were a few Vauxhall drivers - anyone know Richard Macer and his blue flat-front and then subsequent Droop Snoot nose? |

I'll be honest I don't know for sure, but if you don't want to discuss it on the forum I understand. |

Nice to hear from you again. That shell turned out really well in the end and became the car I raced untill sold. Where are Jeff and Lindy now? Cheers Simon |

Hi Simon.
I haven't seen Jeff or Lynda for 15 yrs at least, a few things happened that are not for on here and we lost touch. I did exchange a couple of emails last year and it would be good to catch up again at a race meet or something. I just exchanged a couple of messages with Richard Macer and as he pointed out we did have some fun back then!! Sean |

Hi Phil, great to see you on here. As i said in the falken thread your green sunbeam is one of the nicest best prepped cars in my memory bank! You really need to try and get it back out at some point to show it off. The last time i saw it was at Snetteryon 1998. You put the Sunbeam on pole next to Rays Manta. Then in the race his flywheel broke ending the manta as we knew it. Looking forward to seeing some pics if you get them up here. Regards, Dave. (yellow Ascona) |

Yeah welcome Phil, the best Lotus Sunbeam preparer in the country possible the world! I remember that day Ray's Manta flywheel exploded I was watching from the old Snetterton grandstand to say it was dramatic was an undertstatement as the shards of flywheel ripped through the bellhousing severing the oil cooler pipes and exiting straight through the steel bonnet punching it a foot into the air and catching the oil alight on the hot exhaust in a fireball. Ray was very lucky that day to survive with his tackle intact! A timely reminder that machining down a stock cast flyweel is not a good idea.

Very lucky escape! I remember in the early 90s a sports car driver died from injuries caused by a clutch/ flywheel failure at Combe.

You can say that again if the flywheel never got him the fireball could have, the marshals really earnt their doughnuts that day and quickly had things under control. The car is hopefully coming out again this year in Classic Thunder, I do hope so as its a great car and driver combo.

Road Saloons
I found this thread very interesting, espcially all the old names from years ago. I found some pictures from 1984-6 that i was going to post here but for some reason I can`t add attachments to this thread. This does not seem to apply to threads in the historic section ?? Anybody know why that is ??

Yeah its a bit of a pain that. You will have to park them somewhere on line then put the link on your post.Maybe this thread and the Falken Tyres thread should be moved to Historic.

Hi Al, yes I undestand that, what I don`t understand is why if I scroll down the page to the Historic section I can insert them normally !!! Shame as I have a lot of result sheets from early road saloons 1984-87.
