I'm hoping this is all clear by the 500 time. Time tells.

It’s impacting on everybody, here’s hoping they get to run Long Beach so the event won’t make a loss. Lot of things to be considered here

The elephant in the room here is that this will push the economy into a recession. When the virus issue goes away, will sponsors still be willing and able to put money towards IndyCar racing? Will fans have the money to attend races? Even if they have the money, would they go to large public events? And will IndyCar's supply chain be able to provide the items (parts) necessary to support a shortened but event packed schedule?

Yes, it’s been predicted the economy will take a massive hit as a result of this. We’ll have to see how much is left after this and whether it leaves motorsport in a precarious situation with regards to some series future

To your larger point and one that is more on topic here (I guess it's ALL on topic, ATM), the first things to go and last to come back are the extracurriculars like motor racing. I think some people will be holed up, wanting their sports back, but sponsors may have been paying employees to, quite frankly, do nothing, which means not much left in the budgets.... What a mess it is. |

• Companies are reluctant to lay off workers and then later they are also reluctant to hire workers. The spike in unemployment comes at the tail end of a recession and only goes back down slowly — think years not months. • Just In Time is a thing and company supply chains are often global. The virus is disrupting these supply chains, which leads to layoffs further up the production chain. It will take time even after the health issues are (mainly) resolved to get industries working again. Aside from the obvious employment impacts, this is why I’m worried about IndyCar’s ability to run a bunch races in short order this summer and fall. All it takes is some material or subcomponent supplier to go out of business or not be able to answer the bell and IndyCar has a short-tern sustainability problem… • Even if the virus impact is relatively similar throughout the U.S. and Canada, the economic impact will vary considerably by industry and community. Yes, it’s a mess… |

IndyCar and the IMS have released a joint statement, regarding the Month of May and so far there are no plans to cancel or postpone the GMR Grand Prix or the Indy 500.

If they can't hold the 500 in May, I wonder if they would consider rescheduling the race rather than cancelling it, that's if the season ever gets underway?

However, I think they'll figure SOMETHING out. Trying to determine how any of this is going to shake out now is throwing darts. Since we've got nothing else to do so... Maybe start back with the 500, whenever they can run it, unless it's too damn hot, once they get in the clear and then get in as much as possible until the end of the season... |

They’ve delayed it by a day or two cause of rain in the past, I’m sure they can delay it by a month or two if necessary, although we all hope it goes ahead as planned.

The Kentucky Derby has been postponed until September. It's only a matter of time until the 500 gets pushed back or at the very least, the roval race axed for an "abbreviated May" at the Speedway.

Rescheduling Indy 500 would be difficult; canceling it could doom race teams ^ the situation everywhere. Cancel / stop now, perhaps the pandemic goes away quicker, but we all suffer financially. Holding on too long, the virus sticks around longer and we suffer greater losses ALL fronts. ***Anyone have a subscription to Indianapolis Business Journal? Not sure who's paying 2 bucks a month for that...maybe it comes with 25 free magazines*** And not sure how this is that much different than Le Mans, which has already pulled the trigger.... |

Well I suspect the problem IMS and IndyCar are facing, is finding a big enough gap later on in the calendar, in which to fit the race programme. As soon as the grand prix is over, it's just over 2 weeks until race day for the 500, what with the Rookie Orientation Programme, practice sessions and qualifying.

Would be a massive shame if Le Mans is the only triple crown race that goes ahead now that Monaco has been cancelled
