That's right, while Johnson was out in front, before the rock rolled onto the circuit.

Didn't know Johnson swapped cars, or at least I'd forgotten... missed a few races in that era.

Perkins and Brock switched to the second car to win in 1983.

Johnson once tried to switch cars, but his backside was too big to fit in the seat

That's right, it was Richards that went along for the ride in 1980 with Brock, he and Perkins shared three wins apiece... my apologies for putting the fingers in gear with the brain in neutral...

In 1983 Brock & Perkins took over car 25 from Harvey & Brock Jnr. to win the race. Harvey only got to drive the first stint and he's dirty about it to this day. He was happy for Brock to take over from his brother but he didn't like being pushed out of the car to make way for Larry.

In 1987 Brock & Parsons took over car 10 from McLeod & Crook. The car crossed the line in third but was awarded victory 5 months later, when the Eggenberger Sierras were finally excluded for a number of irregularities.

In 1990 Dick Johnson tried to take over car 18 late in the race when it was running second but his arse was too big to fit in the seat. He believed he had a better chance of catching the race leading Commodore than the small fellow who gotten the car up to second place; a young, little known New Zealander by the name of Paul Radisich.

Moff, I was waiting for someone to mention Gricey in the villain's hat. I thought of doing so myself, but didn't want to hijack the thread. Poor guy, for decades everyone in Australia told him he was doing it all wrong, then in 1986 he went to Europe and found an entire continent full of people who drive just like him. It's funny, in the early days he had a reputation of running into everyone who came near him, so after a few years the backmarkers all learnt to move over and let thim through as soon as they saw him. So, from then on traffic was never a problem for him, he was like Moses and the sea.

One of Gricey's claims is that Gardner held him back, that when he got out of Frank's team he was able to develop himself better than Frank had been guiding him...

He certainly had natural ability, was third in practice or something but couldn't start one year, was first reserve and all started. About 1970, 71 or 72 if you want to look it up.

Then there was the time he rolled an MG TC at Oran Park... that wasn't such a good display...

Brock

On the subject of car swapping in the 1980 James Hardie 1000 Allan Moffat was cross entered in the Bob Morris 7 Falcon. Moffat got in the car after his Federation Insurance Falcon let go on lap 2. Brock has swapped cars tiwce for Victory 83 & 87 and it took Dick Johnson 3 cars to finish second in 88.
