He made a mess of the Pug alright! He seems to have accepted that he can't possibly win now - although Loeb being Loeb you can bet he'll be on a charge. Podium still in reach?

By the way, Stéphane Peterhansl has been accused of refuelling in an unauthorised point. Peugeot claims that the refuelling points they used are authorised. Stay tuned...

What happened to Sainz?
I saw Hirvonen had lost a lot of time trying to find one of the checkpoints, that's dropped him back a bit. I can't remember where I saw it but I read something that said there would be no action taken against Peugeot. |

side question here, but what are peoples thoughts about the daily video highlight packages this year? im just a casual watcher which probably would explain it, but i am finding them kind of hard to follow and really light on details.

In answer to my own question from earlier - Sainz is out after a gearbox problem, they recovered the car to service but the damage is too much for the car to be repaired and continue (must be more to it than a simple gearbox failure for that to be the case - maybe it took something else out when it failed?). |

Sainz had a puncture and then the transmission broke.
In Latin America, the Dakar Rally airs several times per day on Fox Sports. Sometimes it's the third feed, which I have but other providers don't. |

Hope Loeb comes back next year.
He is a great addition to the competition. Proud of first time biker Brabec getting a top 10. Hope Laia gets a top 10 next year. That was a good Dakar. |

The real heros for me are the Malle Moto bikers, totally unsupported they have an aluminum case with a few spares plus a trunk which gets transported to the next bivouac and after a day's slogging through the stage they return, hopefully, to erect their own tent, carry out any necessary repairs and grab a few hours sleep. The dedication and fortitude of these true adventurers never fails to amaze.

Bikes
"Toby Price on his KTM is the favourite, but newcomers from last year have continued to impress during the season, whether it is Kevin Benavides (Honda) or Adrien van Beveren (Yamaha)." Cars "The Peugeot Dream Team has remained intact, but to go up against Peterhansel, Loeb, Sainz and Despres, Toyota was particularly busy on the transfer market. In addition to Giniel de Villiers, the Hilux Pickups will be driven by Nasser Al Attiyah and Nani Roma. The Minis from Team X-Raid will try to add a fifth trophy to their collection case with Mikko Hirvonen, Orly Terranova and Yazeed Al Rahji. Bryce Menzies will look to make a sensational breakthrough into the world of rally-raid." Trucks "Gerard De Rooy will once again have his Argentinean team-mate Fernando Villagra, who joined him on the podium last January. Kamaz will try to return to their winning ways with Ayrat Mardeev and Eduard Nikolaev. Ales Loprais could create a surprise with a Czech team and Tatra that allowed his uncle Karel to win six times." |

Kevin Benavides broke his hand while training and is out of the Dakar.
Renault will have two factory Dusters for Emiliano Spataro and Facundo Ardusso. |
