Former F1 boss arrested in Brazil for illegally carrying gun while boarding plane
'Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has been arrested in Brazil for illegally carrying a gun while boarding a private plane to Switzerland. In a statement on Thursday, local police said they found an undocumented LW Seecamp .32 gun in the 91-year-old's luggage during an X-ray screening. Ecclestone acknowledged owning the gun, but said he was unaware it was in his luggage at the time. After paying bail Ecclestone was freed to continue his journey to Switzerland.' Why was Bernie heading towards Europe with a gun? Was he planning on taking our someone from the current grid? |

Doesn't everyone take a little 32ACP pocket pistol when they travel to/from Brazil?
Bernie is thinking of the good ole days when nobody would X-ray your luggage on a private flight and the elite could just do as they please! Richard |

Must be great to be rich enough to forget you had a hand gun and still be allowed to board a plane.

I suspect he has already written off the bail money and crossed brasil of his list of holiday destinations.

Come on people. Buy dedicated range bags and don't use the bags you use to fly to carry guns! (spoken like a true American) Note, you can transport firearms on planes in the US, but there is a specific process and that is to NOT just toss them in your carry on luggage and cross your fingers. Bernie keeping it old school. He and Nelson Piquet should form a club.
"Bernie Ecclestone says he would 'take a bullet' for 'first class' Vladimir Putin as he defends war in Ukraine" https://news.sky.com/story/bernie-ec...raine-12642942 Photo from article. As best as I can tell B.E. is leaning it to stick his tongue in Putin's ear or maybe lick his face. I am not sure. Richard |

My main question is why on earth is anyone asking for Bernie's opinion on anything?

First Nelson, now Bernie. I just hope Gordon Murray doesn't come out with something bad too, but then he seems more level headed than those two, so probably not

This isn't the first time Bernie has said something like this. Back in 2009, he was praising Hitler because he "was able to get things done". However, Bernie subsequently had to apologise.

Back in his pomp, it used to be said that you could put all the people who had got one over on BE into a phonebox and still have plenty of room. Today you could say the same that would agree with his opinions.
Back in the day BE used to come out with some off the wall comments as a diversion tactic to stop people actually talking about the latest F1 drama or court case. No, it appears by most people measure and most of the world leaders, that he is deluded. |

When even Piers Morgan is able to put him in his place, you can tell Bernie has lost the plot. He's not even able to buy himself time with a quick rejoinder anymore

Ecclestone was always a one trick pony , held in thrall by a sycophantic paddock because they all got rich on the back of his one ability - to cut a good deal. I've followed motorsport, including F1 for over 50 years, and not even once have I ever heard Ecclestone say anything remotely intelligent , let alone interesting.
His public utterances are invariably gnomic , mischievous , crass and/or idiotic . His pimping of F 1 around to whatever bent regime would enrich him the most was an enduring disgrace and his courting and praise of Putin have just confirmed his utter stupidity , and wilful ignorance of world affairs . Both men are enduring proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. |

Things are not going to plan for Mr Ecclestone currently.
Apart from the alleged charge in Brazil over the gun issue, it has just been announced that HMRC is to be charge him in the UK for fraud by misrepresentation. This is alleged to be as a result of him not declaring assets, believed to be in excess of £400 million, held overseas. See: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/62119689 |
