I feel Verstappen still hasn’t fully matured when it comes to wheel to wheel racing. It’s just that his huge car advantage means he takes less risks, but when he has a fight on he tends to show his old form, with divebombs and the like

Max has always divebombed, or tried to do the near impossible around the outside.
I've seen karting footage of his early teens where he simply overdrove and ended up in the gravel.
Many of his f1 incidents replicate that form.

I don't think they particularly helped him. He was in clear air in the early stages and made his mediums last three laps longer than Gasly's. After that, Gasly's hards fell off near the end of the second and final state and that produced a marked discrepancy compared to his teammate.
