Steve Holmes should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Yes, but that's a different one again. That is one he imported a few years back. An early RS2600. He also has the Fahey car which has the wider wheelarch flares and deeper front spoiler. That one is still being restored.

Again, Thanks Steve. It'll be neat to see them on the track.
When is the magazine article coming out on these cars as they are now ?
Bruce.

The ex Carney richards car was always raced by them in the Williment livery (white-red stripe on the flanks)It was later sold to Dunedin racer Lin Neilson but was burnt out in a paint shop fire. Although it was rebuilt it seems the fire had taken its toll on the shell and it never was as good as it had been before the fire. Lin raced it in a brown/orange/ white colour scheme. I'm not sure where it went after that but it did go through a number of hands.

The ex Fahey/Alan Mann car went to Grant Aitken (Reach to the Sky Hillclimb organiser)in Black Fairydown after spending a season in pale blue Amco Jeans colours (Peter Sundberg or Rod Collingwood?)After that I am not sure but it went through a few south Island hands with different engines other than the FVC. I have heard that it definitely does still exist.

The Richards Escort Twin Cam which is the ex Willment car, was owned and raced by Rayden Smith for many years. It was still in its Willment cream and orange colours, and very original looking. But I'm sure it has been sold within the last year or so, as I'm sure I've seen it competing at Taupo, although it looks as if its been restored. New colour scheme of white and green. Someone else might know if this is the same car. Off the top of my head, the owners last name is Morris.

Bruce, the Fahey Capri will be in a few months time. Slowly gathering info on it. Not sure if I'll do the Moffat car, as its been writen about so many times before, and doesn't have any NZ racing history.

I'll be looking forward to the article Steve. Did Paul Fahey contribute ?
He has been hard to pin down.

Bruce.

Haven't been in touch with Fahey yet. Need his help on about three stories. I have his phone number, and Dennis Marwood quized him on the 72 touring car story I'm doing for AMC so he's still keen to do the racing stuff. The Capri story had always been on the backburner, as there were always other stories to write in which the info just came together much quicker.

Should make a great article though. Not sure which mag it'll appear in yet though.

Dennis has been hard to pin down too. Chris M tried but to no avail. Paul, I don't know. It might be nice to get their personal stories down too before it is too late.
As for Puke, one of my guys crews on a NZ Tourer so he's away playing and I'm at work till late Sat. The weather is the key factor on whether I make it out on Sunday. You ?
You have mail too.

It was Terry Marshall who got in touch with Dennis for me as they go back a long way. But Dennis doesn't even recall racing at the two meetings I'm writing about for AMC. Even though he's in the results! But he's been quite helpful in other area's. He thought the Gardner Camaro was a 7 litre, as did Fahey, but then again, he also thought it was actually the Bob Jane Camaro, which of course, it wasn't. Being thirty years ago, and having had such a full-on racing career, the facts sometimes get mixed up, which is understandible.

Boy, do I know what 30+ years does to peoples memories. There was as much, or more, mis-information then as there is now, and I think it was deliberate in a lot of cases. Anything to draw the crowds, and it worked too.
Good to know that the guys are still interested in contributing though.
Good night.
TTYL.
Bruce.

In '74 Bryan Blackberry was entered in an FVC Escort, but I don't know if it's the same one.

Bryan Blackberry "Frist" Escort FVC taken at Te Onepu Hillclimb in Hawkes Bay 8th Feb 1975 new saloon record 53.9 sec. engine was later sold to Bryan Hartley in Palmerston North (father of Red Bull Racing protege Brendan) for use in his Escort Speedway Saloon , he netted a runner up spot with it in the Manawatu Champs in 1977, apparently engine is in Auckland region being restored/rebuilt

Suggest that you might want to get in touch with Mike John - of Targa fame. (He sold out of Targa a few months ago, but if you send me a PM, I can probably put you in touch).

He certainly has what looks to be the genuine article - I am no expert - but I am pretty sure it is a quad cam.

I can probably fish out a paddock photo, as he ran it at Pukekohe in the 'Living Legends' (demonstration) meeting at Targa probably October (2004?) It was at 'Weber Specialties' on Auckland's North Shore for quite a while before it last ran.
