It seems clear at this point that at least one issue to be dealt with is the escalating matter of international sanctions on individuals and corporate bodies linked to the Russian State and leadership with National Governments, the European Union and national and international sporting bodies responding to the emerging situation in Ukraine.

I suspect its got a lot to do with russian money.
russian drivers, businesses, sponsors, drivers and teams having assets invested in russian companies.....it will be an absolute spiders web trying to work out whats where and how much. Trying to untangle this and firm up an entry list that can actually commit to the race....given that more sanctions on individuals and businesses are on the way could get messy. ....i guess we will soon see where the finances for racing is coming from in a few cases! |

Beyond G-Drive, who do we reckon could be impacted?
Not seen SMP anywhere since BR departed. Not a lot of Russian drivers on the grid. |

They may also have been waiting for a statement from the FIA on how they were going to handle Russian drivers and teams. And that has been made and is rather poor imho, that fence must be soooo uncomfortable!

I suspect based on this statement Total is unlikely to be kicked out of supplying the field.
Other companies? I suspect we're unlikely to see anything with G-Drive or SMP written on the side. |

Believe they have been on the side of the AF Corse ferrari lately, not dominant sponsors but along the doors I thought but may have been a couple years
Glad it wasn't just me trying to remember which car and how long ago |

Didn't SMP leave international motorsport because of sanctions against Rotenberg brothers? They are still big factor in Russian national racing scene.

Not going to be a showstopper for a team like AF Corse is it you'd have thought.
As soon as the ACO said 'later this week' I took that to mean Friday. Will be interesting to see if we get news tomorrow. |

Perhaps I’m imagining it but I thought AF Corse’s Spirit of Race branch was originally a way of getting around sanctions as it is Swiss-flagged

for WEC program AF Corse is financially and technically backed by ferrari competizione GT division, won't be a tragedy for them to detach some SMP decals...
