avsfan733 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
maybe the goal should be to increase the gaps between the points. This would make each overtaking manuever a bigger deal and a more important one, however at the same time I still think reliability should be rewarded along with fastest lap and pole. And maybe a point for the person who gains the most points, which might make things interesting with the new qualifying rules

I know he said something to that effect, and I think it sounds extremely arrogant. Maybe he didn't intend it that way.

I said earlier that I would like to see the race winner receive 12 points instead of 10. That's the only alteration I would make. Otherwise, the new points scoring system is fine.

I can see how you could see the view as arrogant, but I was using it to demonstrate what I believe to be an important point, voiced by some drivers, past and present (Schuey's was the one I could remember). 12 points for a win would certainly be better

Maybe 1st-2nd gap in points is a bit too small (I'd prefer 11 for 1st!). Anyway, closer scoring systems produces closer championships (in terms of deciding WC). A quick simulation using earlier seasons can show it.

Historically F1 system has had a spreader point system than others categories (including bikes), and historically a lot of other championships have seen fierce figths for position. I think the key factor here is F1's difficult overtakes, above the factor introduced by this scoring system.

I'd find interesting the fastest-lap bonus, but in the present system with 10-8 points for 1st-2nd it would be too close in case the 2nd have the F.L. This kind of bonus has historical roots in F1, so it would not be against the "spirit-of-F1".

It's interesting that in the earliest WCs, for many years the scoring systems was 8-6-4-3-2-1 (pretty similar to nowadays), and 1 point bonus for fastest-lap.

True, though in those days there were fewer races so a win might, mathematically, be worth more (?). Didn't stop Hawthorn beating Moss to the title in '58 though....

That's right. Fewer races in that points system did the difference. With 16 races to go, the competition increases and the title can be decided right in the end...

Which IS what you want, but surely we want it to happen through close competition and NOT close points systems which - in relative terms - penalise the most succesful teams/drivers (ie. they have to wait longer and could, in theory, lose).

Remember that is just part of a package of new rules. If you evaluate it isolated is a situation, but in the mix with the others rules implemented they can get a different outcome.
