Sorry, what was ISC? I read the report but dont remember the series myself, what type of machinery, besides the Lister, was entered?

From the site, it was a 75 minute race 2-driver sportscar event. The stupid gimmick was that there were lots of onboard cameras (and IIRC wanted Bernievision style coverage), complete access to the telementary and radios - and, wierdly, the drivers were wired up to heart rate monitors. The last bit is really odd. No, really. Why would anyone really find that info interesting?

The Interactive Sportscar Championship was set up in 2001 by ex sportscar racer Dominic Chappell. The idea was that with broadband uptake increasing, a series could be broadcast over the internet; the viewer complete freedom as to what they watched, be it trackside cameras, on board shots from a variety of different angles, plus access to radio communication and drivers heart rates. Also a camera shot would be available of the cars' dashboards so that the viewer could find out the revs a car was using, which gear, fluid temperatures and so on.
With regards to cars; the regulations were similar to the British GT championship. As a result, aside from the Lister Storm, the race also featured Marcos LM600, Chrysler Viper GTS-R, Porsche 993 GT2, Chevrolet Corvette, Stealth B6 and a Venturi. A couple of Nissan Skylines and Ferrari F40s were enetered for the Donington race, but didn't show. |

Sounds like a good idea to be honest, but surely it would be easier to incorperate the interactive part to a current championship, i.e. F1 or WTCC.
I often sit, thinking, 'if only I knew the drivers heart rates, that would make this even more enjoyable' |

When I was doing F1 ten years ago the drivers were wired up to pulse monitors in the team I was with. I assume the same is true now.

The series was also setup in a kind of 'franchise' way, in that a team bought two spots on the grid, & there was a limit in the amount of cars per model (2 or 4 from memory).... ie you couldn't have a field with 10 Vipers in it.
A team was supposed to run a pair of Abt Audi TT-Rs from the DTM also (the actual team name was Abt Sportsline UK from memory) As for SCV8, as with most things, it came at the wrong time.....a pity it couldn't have been pitched abit earlier as a replacement for Super Touring in the BTCC (from memory, weren't there even rumours, perhaps thats all they were, that BHP were considering adopting straight DTM2000 rules for the 2001 BTCC, when the 'new DTM' was pitched as being cost-effective?) |

The series was launched with great fanfare. Didn't the demo Jag even make a visit to the actual X Type factory? Then they said they would take a year hiatus to fully prepare and now it's up for sale in Autorsport.
I feel really bad for Andy Rouse--first his stillborn ST Toyota Corolla and now his SCV8 Jag X Type. That's 2 out of 2 failures? |

Wasn't resurrecting Team Nuclear Cat more of a ploy by WSR to enter two more cars? I don't think you're permitted to enter four cars for BTCC. If I recall correctly (which I rarely do) the team was totally owned by WSR, they just painted them up as Team Atomic Kitten.

You can enter as many BTCC cars as you want. TAK was run out of WSR workshops using WSR equipment.
