manicmarshal: you're right - it was Riches It's part of a sequence of number 58 getting rather lost (as did I by getting my corners wrong). There are 2 other pictures of him recovering and kicking up a wonderful dust storm. Just haven't scanned those yet.

Stinky's the Don of the 2CV racing scene...
How did I manage to miss so many people from 10-10ths? You really ought to be forced to paint your heads green. |

Already done - next year's date is the 19th-20th of June I think - the week after LeMans.

Very tempted by a 2CV drive next year in the 24hrs, this would seem like a good place to start asking questions.. I've done two full seasons in a Ginetta G20.. Have got a National A licence, but could upgrade to an International C licence.. Are there lots of seats available or even cars? I'd like to do some racing at night and possibly have a whole team of 3 drivers (all new to 2CVs) enter.. Any thoughts/leads/ideas would be good.

I'm up for a drive in it. We considered building a car for it last year. Are entries limitied? It seems very popular now. |

"Have got a National A licence, but could upgrade to an International C licence". Hehe, you only need a Nat. B, it's at Snetterton next year, not LeMans
There's not many seats available year-on-year, and most cars are spoken for. Some do appear in the 2nd hand market during the year, but disappear when the 24-hour race comes around... There were 34 cars entered this year, and more were on the 'provisional' list - up to 40, but some deals fell through. Some with 3 drivers, some with 4. Potentially, there were about 130 drivers taking part! The thing to do is go to www.2cvracing.co.uk and register your interest, either that or befriend a 2cv racer and try and get in that way (like I did ) It's probably not such a good idea to enter it with no experience. Get someone who's done it before, otherwise you'll end up doing a 'Practical Classics'* However, I have to say, driving a 24 hour race is thebest experience I've had in motorsport - it was fantastic, especially the night driving, which just has to be experienced - words fail me! I'll try and get regular 2CV racer, and membership secretary, Christine Savage (now Thompson) to post more here. *If you don't get the reference, a team of journos from PC turned up with an already-prepped race 2CV, but no experience, and no spares. They went through 4 engines which they borrowed, spent a lot of time in the pits, and generally had crappy luck, and didn't know what they were doing. With a lot of help and borrowed parts/tools, they finished the race, to rapturous applause! They have a full report in their magazines. |

If I was going to be in the UK I'd be up to drive as well. What sort of contribution would a team need?

Is it going to be at Snett again?
Actually tried e-mailing Christine at events@2cvracing.co.uk (from the site) but it got bounced I'd definitely be interested in a drive, esp. if it's not on at the same time as LM and then can go to both (unfortunately only to watch one Would like to at least get one years experience and then who knows!! I've only just seen the most recent postings here.
We've had problems with the club's website and it is out of date. (Mind you, so is my personal one). The e-mail events@2cvracing.co.uk is lsited as being my e-mail address, this is a mistake, it's actually the events secretary's e-mail address. You can contact me via my own website www.girl-racer.co.uk if you like. However, if you have speciffic queries about the 24 hr race, then you're best to contact Paul Taylor (Secretary@2cvracing.co.uk) who is the club's general secretary. If you want more info on the 2CV 24hr, then a good move is to join the club as an associate member. It costs £15 for the year and you get to recieve the club mag which has details about the event in it. Membership forms are on www.2cvracing.co.uk. Chris Y is right to suggest that you don't just buy a car and turn up with no-one in the team having experience, you'll be much better off hitching a ride with someone who's done it before. Sorry, but my car is already full with me, my borther and Chris Y and 2 others interested in the 4th seat. We're racing at Pembrey on the weekend of 25/26 Oct, and at Donington on Nov 9th. SO I would advise that you come along and talk to 2CVers, that's what Chris did. As for what you'd be expected to contribute to a team...well, that depends upon the team. It could just be money, it could be money, helpers, tools, other equipment, etc. etc. Chris for instance, paid for 1/3 rd of the cost of running the car, lent me his trailer, brought Masie along to act as a fireman and general helper, and came over a few weeks before the race to help get the car ready. If anyone has any more Qs, then please let me know. :-) Christine |
