I see it as a worth while attempt, if it works!

I agree with your point apart from two (slightly off-topic) caveats.

At risk of being accussed of "trolling", I am concerned about the cost to the club of setting up these "high profile" meetings. If the meetings are self-funding (or the loss is declared and can be justified for another reason, such as by a quantified increase in membership of the club) then all is well and good. However, the accounts for individual meetings are not published, and the cost of the efforts of club staff are not publicly applied to individual meetings. In the absence of facts, concerns grow that these "high profile" meetings are being run at the members expense for the benefit of a small clique and non-members. If we can't run festival meetings at low cost to ourselves, let's leave them to Lord March, Duncan Wiltshire, et al.

When volunteering to help at events last year I did so for the benefit of the club - viz I did not just help at "points scoring" events. I choose not Marshal at other clubs (or Lord March's) race meetings, yet found myself trackside at some meetings with less VSCC (including VSCC post-war) content than "modern" content.

If the VSCC wants to get the message over about the delights of our cars, whey do we not organise one or two races at other clubs meetings? That way our racing members get more events, and the public see our cars without the VSCC having to organise a whole meeting.

Duncan

PS Forums can be fun, but they are delicate beasts at times.

On the basis of the website and my cajoling, I already have a very large party of people who are planning to be there, and will pay for admission.
None would even dream of visiting a VSCC event normally, they just want to see Schumacher's runabout at close quarters and can't/won't afford Bernie's prices for the GP.
It can only be a good thing for the club that these people (of all ages) are planning to come along, who knows they might just catch the illness that we all (happily) suffer from.

I wonder if there are plans for TV coverage and/or a video?

(Thank goodness for cut and paste!)

I agree with Mr B that these events should only be run if there is a benefit to the club membership. The Old PO seem to be making a huge effort to organise a real jamboree, let's give them a chance to show that it can make a profit
a)large enough to justify itself, and
b)to subsidise other more appropriate events.

I suspect that if a P&L were produced on an event by event basis we might get a nasty shock. I would hate pressure to be brought to scrap certain core VSCC events simply on the basis of economics, in that they don't break even, accountants should not be running the ship.
