Just in case there are any kiwis living in Sydney lurking here - Team NZL are doing a promotion at Eastern Creek where any kiwi that turns up to the track with their nz passport will get free admission to help support Jonny at his favourite track!
Wish I was in Sydney |

I don't NAC, a little sparse in the stands for qualifying although I didn't see the race last year. Sprint grid, Feature grid...21st, not the end of the world...but you can sure as heck see it from there. Very unWickens like that, not sure what was going on there.

Saturday crowds are always down at the Sydney A1. Weather cleared nicely late this afternoon, hopefully that entices some of the crowd who were scared off by the predictions of rain all weekend.

Yeah, well, there ya go Alfa. Like I said, I didn't see the race last year so nothing to compare it to. Qualifying's not much of a show in my opinion, in fact, I find the whole Sprint race thing a little redundant this year. But that's just me. We are getting the live stream over here, so far at least, so I'll stop complaining.

1 second from 1st to 15th in qualifying for the sprint race ... pretty close for the feature too - hope the races are as close!

Not sure how it is for the spectators at the track Gomick, but I found it easier to follow with live timing than the video coverage. Trouble is, the two aren't synchronised, Watson's about a sector behind. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying...
Edit: more likely the 7 second delay thing. Last edited by Last2LiftOff; 2 Feb 2008 at 13:02. |

We don't get the video coverage in the UK because it's on TV, but it's interesting to hear that we have the same commentators - Ben Edwards and John Watson. I reckon they do a very good job, because A1GP is particularly difficult to follow with all the manic action.
Olly Jarvis was in the studio for Sky TV and was very diplomatic when asked why Robbie Kerr missed the opportunity to record a qualifying lap in the first qualifying session for the sprint race. |

Yeah indeed! Thats why the feature race will be very important for the drivers to keep the tyres in good condition after a stint. It will be interesting to see who can do so. |

Don't be too surprised about the empty stands at Eastern Creek. Not to many locals bother to turn out when open wheelers are not run as a support event for the local Taxis. Like Albert Park and Surfers Paradise do.
Allan Jones endeavoured to stir up a bit of interest with this. http://tools.goldcoast.com.au/stories/1075791.php Think AJ may be talking through his wallet but it does indicate the sad state of open wheelers in Oz. Even Bernie is picking up his bat and going home. By the way the official home team at Eastern Creek is Team Lebanon Last edited by Oldtony; 2 Feb 2008 at 22:45. |

The Sprint Race has just ended. I won't give away the results, but anyone wanting to see them should check the live timing screen. There have been earlier links to that.
It was a runaway win for one nation, but something strange happened towards the end of the race, because the lap times dropped by about 20 seconds. A shower perhaps, although no one stopped for tyres that I could see. Unusually, there was no Safety Car and the race ran its full distance. Despite that there was plenty of action from about lap 6 onwards. |

Don't get the call on the tires in the Sprint race there Saleen, with only 8 or 9 laps to go. But sounds like there's a tape delay on the telecast down under so...
