Well look at the Bathurst coverage... they had that cool car-by-car detail as to what happened in a microbyte.
The whole thing wasnt reporting, it was an expression of personal biases, against Speedy, HYL amongst others... ...maybe they spent too much time perving on the AA girls and not enough gathering facts |

GTR - how would it cost money? They have already restricted the number of words Jon Evans is allowed to submit (are they still using him btw?) He is capable of much more and much better articles than he has produced over the past 2-3 years....

They would have to buy more paper and ink, so it would cost money. There are a few writes that submit to that publication that are capable of better, yet seem hamstrung by forces unknown
Much better to rerun the pics out of an old Wheels magazine (which would have been significant in March when they were taken) than put proper content aboard |

MNews kills AA, I can't even see where there is room to make a comparison... seriously - MNews is consistenly a good read, more in depth, better race reports, everything. Apart from AA being weekly, I can't think of any area where it beats MNews.

I absolutely loathe it! I only started buying it because it had a half naked piccie of Skaifey in it (remember I'm a chick okay) and hoped there was a mag out there with something for the girls, HOW WRONG WAS I?!
There's a lot of dribble in it, they get their facts wrong, and can't even interpret a letter properly! I wrote to them to complain about the amount of grid girls compared to cars, and they totally missed the point (yes that was me) To top it all off, that letter won letter of the week, which I won a MENS watch for, but I haven't got it yet. Tried ringing them a couple of times to no avail. I like Mnews, it's fortnightly so it costs less and hardly any chicks! |

Would you folk buy MNews if it was a weekly? I, for one, wouldn't like to see them fall in the same 'no news' trap as AA.
However, when they brought out two issues back to back mid-this year, they were great. I'd definetly buy it if it went weekly. |

It is a slight improvment over the previous, the Bathurst preview was up to AA norm S******E. Hopfully with Fogs incharged the mag will not be Holden orinentated as before, but they still have a long way to go to catch up to Motorsport News & Autosport.

Anybody who thinks the new AA is better than the old one must be very easily pleased. The first 'new' issue was **** and the second one was worse. After buying the magazine for over 30 years i'm really considering whether it's worthwhile at all. The only thing it really covers is V8's (and it's rather pathetic support events) and F1, MotoGP and WRC in any detail. Yet a while ago they could use up 3 valuable pages on an comparison between a bike and a racing car.
I'v also bought every issue of MN and i think that's where my money will be in the future. Fogarty should have enough readers out of his "overwhelming support for the new format" that he claims, to keep it on the shelves. Well maybe anyway. |

Have stopped buying AA after 15 years of reading due to lack of content.MN is much more informative & will continue to get my hard earned.

tim robson i think started in australian mountain bike. that magazine was tops, after he left and some key editors in 2000 i think the magazine went downhill. tim went to motor mag, i reckon his articles weren't bad. dunno about AA as i like motorsport news

As i've said before, i dont buy either of them anymore. The cost was getting out of hand and i can get all mt info off the net now. The money i save on AA or MN goes towards my internet connection.

The F1 coverage from Japan was a joke - the note about "not enough room due Bathurst coverage" didn't seem to stop pages and pages of Rally stuff!

As a AA reader since 1978, I don't like the new format and the content since they moved to Sydney.
It has definitely gone downhil. |

I probably wouldn't buy it if it was a weekly, I don't think there's enough Motorsport news world wide to warrant it as a weekly, fortnightly is heaps enough. Besides, it would just be far too expensive

AA now have a centre spread about a different V8 supercar each week. How riveting. Well if not now it will be by Xmas time.
When Australian racing on the whole gets as much coverage as grid girls they will be half way to having a decent magazine. I won't hold my breath though. |

Auto Action: In Colour
The New Auto Actiion fails on many accounts:The Size; poor and indifferent colour quality(I have seen better throwaways) and lack of information . "Foges: better get his act together, otherwise we will have only one general racing paper to choose from.
AA has now hit the pits with its latest incarnation, going to colour(poor quality at that) will not disguise its other ills. Last edited by Robert Ryan; 19 Oct 2003 at 04:59. |
