Interesting to see everybody being quite close together, including the LDF Toyota (which by the way has the fastest single lap courtesy of Sarrazin).
The race tomorrow should prove to be interesting. |

This race almost slipped by me. Glad I logged in. (Actually, I saw an ad while watching the Giro d'Italia.) Lots of good racing this weekend ... and IMSA, too!

I missed qualifying but it looks like a good session. To see the new LM package Toyota do the fastest lap is a good sign. I think the race should be a good one too. Porsche were really fast in sector 2, by 3 tenths on Kobayashi. But Toyota own sector 3 by about 4 tenths. Sector 1 is the contested one with all the hybrids close.

one quick porsche lap. seems like the top speed goes down very early down the straights, when the hybrid power runs out. which would suggest there's quite a lot of downforce in that setup. ultimately, porsche has got the fastest sector 2.

My feeling is that the GTE Porsche's went for no sort of laptime whatsoever. Probably did their laps on full fuel load. They are hiding everything. That car is quicker than times would have us believe.

I'm not sure. They also didn't qualify well over in the IMSA race. As I have stated before: This "solution" that Porsche came up with still does not have me convinced

Do you think they need another model in their road car lineup that's above the 911 but below the 918?

they need to bite the bullet in the market and make the Cayman the top of the line in racing .... but really it makes more sense to do what they did---bite the bullet in racing and sell the crap out of the 911

I don't think anyone put in as good a qualifying as they could. Lots of potential for the race.
Well done Porsche. |

My issue is that if you are going to spend a year developing a mid-engine car (so you can be competitive) why on earth don't you use a platform that was especially designed for that purpose, rather than adapting a platform that was not specifically designed for that purpose. Furthermore, why not come to the party with a turbo engine? Porsche is steeped in that technology. I just don't get it. I get that they want to continue to market the 911, but you are not getting a lot of marketing mileage if you aren't winning. The 911 used to dominate. Now it is almost just a participant. Sad really. |

Sun is shining, rain most likely not an issue to the very end, gear is ready and off we go to Belgium!

I didn't get to see qualifying but the qualifying highlight video had Martin Haven commentating rather than Toby Moody. Is he on the live coverage? Still isn't as good as RLM but Haven is at least a professional and competent commentator.

Even with that terrible Bake Off "joke" Martin Haven is already an improvement on Toby Moody.

As for developing another car, well we are in BOP so the need is less. And this new car is looking pretty handy so early on. Over the years in its class the 911 has done well, but It hasn't always dominated. Apart from in numbers! |

I'd be surprised if the #1 is still leading after the first lap.

Not a hope in hell of making turn 1 there and appesrs to have flat spotted a tyre too. Lotterrer is bedding into Porsche quite nicely. Dumps showing he really is too good for LMP2.
