IROC needs a road course

Getting back to the topic,
I think that adding a road course to IROC would be a good thing,
(I would like either Watkins Glen or Sears Point).
I would really like to see more than 4 races in IROC.
I think they could recapture some of the excitement they had when IROC first started.
I enjoy IROC and I hope they change a few things to make it better.

As to the dirt, almost all the drivers invited race on paved courses.
Adding dirt would "pervert" IROC from what it is. JMO

I am sorry to deviate topic again Stan,I just feel that it would be cool to see the "worlds best drivers" race on dirt.
The fact that they do not usually run on dirt is what would make it more challenging than the usual format.

Back on topic I say...... No to road course because I think they suck and are boring.

I really think that NASCAR Winston Cup and BGN should race at least one race each year on dirt. So, I wouldn't squawk if IROC had one dirt race on their schedule.

I really don't see IROC adding a race on the dirt guys.
The TOPIC was about adding a ROAD COURSE to IROC !!!
Why does every thread have to be perverted into something else ???

Because one thing leads to another? I don't see a problem with that.

Yeah. But I liked "Red Sky's at Night" better...

See what I mean, Stan? One thing does lead to another. Just having said that reminded Lars of a band that did a song called "One Thing Leads to Another"...

Gosh Guys, My little "rant" made more ripples than I expected.
Don't be sorry Racerex, it's part of the entertainment, lol.
I guess I should have put a smiley face or something.
I'm not angry at all, I think it is funny.

My wife used to go to the local dirt track with me to watch the hobby stockers and the late model stocks race when we were first married, first couple of times we went, she complained about the dirt in her hair, but she got used to it and really loved to watch the racing, it was exciting to watch, dirty yes, but great racing !

I haven't got a clue what Roselady meant, I'm all guy here.

Dirt Track Racin'

It has been several years since I went to a dirt track, the one I went to shut down years ago, it was in a old rock quarry, they had to haul dirt in quite often because the cars would "wear it out" and because it would "fly away" in the air, (our cars in the parking lot were always covered with dirt). They wet the track before each heat but it dried quickly.

I went to bed last night with the visions of the hobby stockers going into the turns with their "tails" hung out powering their way out of them putting dirt "rooster tails" in the air, and then they would race into the short straightaway and back into the next turn.

How sweet a vision it was !!!

The hobby stockers were the "guys next door" with very little money, who built their cars in their backyard or in their garage if they had one, they took street cars, took out the glass & seats, welded in a roll cage, took off the muffler and tailpipe, made the few engine modifications that they were allowed and went racing on Saturday night. They were allowed to use the biggest engine produced at the time, the only chassis mods were "stiffer" shocks, they ran dirt rims and tires, that was some serious racing !!!

Sweet Memories Indeed !!!

The funniest thing I ever saw in a race happened at a dirt track...the Dodge Co. Fairgrounds...a few years ago. As the car was approaching the start/finish to take the green the pin that holds the drive shaft to the bell housing must have fallen out and the car just jack-knifed straight up in the air and when it came down it was about 50 feet in front of the whole rear end of the car...lol. It couldn't have been more perfectly planned...as soon as he hit the line by the flag man...the car was totally vertical on it's front wheels.

If we're gonna have a _real_ International Race of Champions, you've got to do it right. Make it international, make it for Champions, and make it a _real_ race. So... How about a 9-race schedule? Ovals at Daytona, Indy, Bristol, Motegi in Japan, and the "other" Rockingham in England. And road courses at Interlagos in Brazil, Spa in Belgium, the Nurburgring in Germany, and Mt. Panorama in Australia (running the longest track layout at each). Three classes of drivers: Senior for retired champions, Junior for current champions, and rookie for champions in the development series (Busch, F3 and F3000, Toyota Atlantic, etc).

As for cars? How about Can-Am style open top sports racers? Real mid-'60s retro, with hot Ford 302s, and _no_ driver aids. These cars have would split the difference in handling between modern open-wheel cars, stock cars and sports cars, and would be a handful to drive, giving all the drivers a fairly equal handicap (with a bit of an edge to the older drivers, who drove such cars in the '60s and '70s).
