I run a AMD 4000+ with a X1900XTX. Very few games should be bringing this setup to its knees, but GTL does just that. Its not even THAT graphically intensive, no light sourcing, no HDR yet I get really quite sloppy frame rates, 45FPS at times. Regarding being CPU intensive, I don't really subscribe to that either. I have ran my CPU at 2000Mhz and then tested the frame rate, then set the CPU at 2700Mhz, then tested the frame rate again, it was exactly the same. The reason why GTL stutters, wobbles and judders like an old washing machine is because the game engine is terrible. Its a fundamental coding problem as no amount of extra PC oommph improves the performance of the game at all. However, I see from the interview you mention that a lot of effort has gone into recoding the engine for GTR2 with more load being placed off the CPU onto the GPU, whatever that means is open to question, however I hope they have made massive changes to the coding. Just a heads-up and I can only speak for the UK....
A work colleague of mine bought PC Gamer today and in the next issue bit on the back page it says the GTR2 demo is going to be on next month's cover disc. It says it will be on sale on 3rd August, so I'll be looking out for that. |

Yes, I also hear the September date for GTR2, certainly a long way off the June date which was mooted. So we might get it for 2 or 3 whole days of their "Summer 2006" launch campaign - great. |

Scratch that.
PC GTR2 demo is out Friday 21st at 5pm BST, confirmed. http://uk.gamespot.com/promos/2006/g...tag=gtr2_csbox However the release date has slipped again to Sept 30th, so much for the summer release then. |

Been playing the demo, very good.
There's more grip than before, maybe too much, but certainly more realistic than the cars in GTR1 that spun regularly. I've read that if you use the F keys you can turn the driving aids off, they may not turn off completely in the games menus, I'll have to try it. |

Well, first things first.
WOW! Absolutely amazing, after the first few laps around spain i realised that i had been waiting for a racing game like this for years. Games like GT4 et TRD3 pale into insignificance compared with this. The in car views are stunning, lovely graphical touches, such as the carbon fibre, and the switches. External, the cars look pretty good, with the usual glowing discs, flames from the exhaust etc. The track whichis available in the demo (catalunya), is modelled really nicely, things that make the experience thast more realistic such as lights on the pitlane, marshals, and other pit crews adds to the sensation of being there. The day/night/day cycles are quite good, but sometimes i don't think it's quite dark enough at 2am for example. As you can only do a maximum of 15 laps or 26 minute races, there wasn't that many marbles by the side of the track at the end, but for the amount of time there was, the marbles seemed to affect grip accordingly when i slid onto them. The physics themselves makesGT4 look like Crash Team racing on the PS1 (bit harsh i know, just making a point) if you come into a corner too hot, it will punish you; either by sending you off for tea with the tyre wall, or crawling slowly through the gravel, whicht he punishes you with poor grip for the next few corners. Overall, i am thoroughly emjoying playing the demo, and can't wait for Sept 30, when the full version will hit the shops. However, i'm not sure one track is enough to keep me amused until then. I will go as far as saying that it's the best racing game i have ever played, and i don't think TRD3 or GT4 will get much use from now on... |

We have you now..
[slightly OT] Its funny, I was never that brilliant at console driving games (with a pad anyway) but the GT-One around Cote d'Azur (Monaco) was mine... Especially if a wheel was hooked up. [/slightly OT] I've just had a go and I think it is a real improvement over GTR, which barring some of the annoying niggles I hold in very high regard. I can feel the car more and although road cars and racing cars are completely different machines I feel I can relate a little more. Its nice to be able to plant the trottle, feel exactly whats going and be able make any adjustments based on whats coming back to me through the wheel. No nasty surprises. I think I'll definitelty be making an 'investment' on launch day. I've only got in and driven on the standard setup for about 20 minutes so far, so it should be fun to see what it does with a few tweaks. Last edited by Spudgun; 22 Jul 2006 at 23:26. |

Most sites are now listing 22nd Sept as the release date (as opposed to the 15th seen on many earlier)

I want it now! Oh well... a few weeks isn't that far to wait, though it will feel like forever.

Only for sendit.com - some others still list the 15th, some the 22nd, and some already have the game in their hands (Finland).
Clear as mud. "It'll be out when it's out" I guess. |

As long its the best it can be, I don't mind if its delayed. Actually, pushing it back the odd week or two is nothing compared to some things..

I think the release day 'in Europe' was pushed back to the 29th, by Atari. However, as I said above, some guys in Finland have it already, and there's a few people bought it off eBay.
See here. - this guy still has some in stock as I type, and I know a few people have bought from him already and it arrived next day. Ok, it's a little more expensive than Sendit.com for example, but cheaper than most high street stores will be. |
