And the Toyota near misses. A triple-pack of runner-up finishes:

1992: Sekiya/Raphanel/Acheson - TS010

1994: Irvine/Martini/Krosnoff - 94C-V

1999: Katayama/Tsuchiya/Suzuki - GT-One (TS020)

Pretty stirring stuff. If people haven't seen it the second half of this Shakedown episode is a really good illustration of what Toyota have put into the event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6DVJgvA560

It's time...

Ford..... have won it .
Brundle..... has won it .
Toyota..... are tryin hard , and it must hurt that only Mazda from Japan has done it .
Ferrari..... obviously arnt interesred , their interested in F1 only .
Lots of Peugeot drivers, for various reasons.
Porsche...... won more than any other mark .
BENTLEY..... has won it .

Enough to be going on with?
Oh of course not....
Dunlop..... has won it heaps of time .

Most of the above choices have won it , hardly unfinished business .

They are also aware that they won it a LONG time back.
Time to refresh the halo...

Someone said Alfa Romeo and I think this is a good point. Despite many genuine attempts in terms of design and assembly to improve their reputation of unreliablity, Alfa just can't shake it off that reputation. Surely a Le Mans 24 hours win would be massive for them. Especially if they beat Audi, with whom they compete with their saloons and smaller cars...and Porsche, with whom they compete at the top of their range!

Wishful thinking there though, I don't think Alfa has the money to do it. Also, the thinking in Milan seems to be "sod the reputation, let's just make sportscars again".
The idea of VW buying Alfa has been knocking around for a while so if Fiat get tired of propping them up maybe Alfa could find themselves doing some sort of properly funded racing in the future. Hopefully that would not involve some dreadful diesel contraption. Talk about dreaming...

Could this be the way that Alpine/Renault end up back at Le Mans?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...ports-car.html

Hopefully they will have racing ambitions beyond an F1 badging exercise...

Would be an awesome way to market the "new" brand!

What ever happens, I'm happy to see Alpine back, I love the A310 and especially the A110!

Hey that was actually a very good short video, well worth watching, lets hope that if the new alpine does go into production however that it does show an ability to outclass the original one a little more convincingly.

Agree, But i fear 1 victory would be enough for Tom K to retire. He just need to underline that he's still the best, and then retire with all glory and honour.

Maybe a new driver in the #2 will galvanise them next year and give them that bit extra they have been missing.

Personally, I don't see him adding to his incredible record. I think his day is past....

Just watching the Le Mans 2012 dvd (again) and watching Seth Neiman chuck off the Flying Lizard Am car and the Pro car also go out following an accident.

For a team of their stature the Lizards really do have unfinished business. Neiman himself has entered the race for every year since 2005. He's done no better than third in class on that first outing. Bergmeister and Long won with other teams and then as soon as they hooked up with FL their results just nose-dived.

I suppose this could be a case of a race just being too cruel to a team.

But didn't Neiman drive at the 24 hours when many of his usual rivals had 3 competitive drivers in the car? Unlucky, yes, but if he had really wanted to win he'd have put 3 pro drivers in the cars whenever he could.
