Tomorrow may be interesting. Piquet is driving in the morning while Rosberg will be at the wheel in the afternoon. Hopefully the weather is equal all day so we get a good hint. But as many have said, do you ever know in testing?

I still think these two - Piquet and Rosberg jr - are hired simply because of their last names. If they didn't have those surnames, they wouldn't be given these opportunities. There are plenty of drivers out there who have been more successful who haven't been given this sort of opportunity.
Just because their fathers were World Champions doesn't mean the sons will be anything like them. |

As I said before. Surname helps but it's not everything. Examples? Fittipaldi (Christian), Scheckter (Thomas), Brabham (David).
Maybe Carbone and Green would deserve a chance. Hamilton has links with McLaren and Briscoe with Toyota. What about Courtney and Van Der Merwe? They are good... but didn't have impressive rookie years like Nico and Nelsinho. Last edited by DieRitter; 4 Dec 2003 at 05:31. |

Briscoe has already tested Toyota and how come Carbone would deserve a chance if Kovalainen didn't get it until now. Hamilton was in AMG's karting team with Nico but hasn't been able to keep up with Nico since.

Scheckter has been sacked 3 times now, and still has a plum drive with one of IRL's top teams, while proven winners like Herta and Buddy Lazier are driveless. Brabham's more of a talent, admittedly. There is clearly a gneetic aspect to ability, but it could be that the guys whose parents are racers/fans gave them exposure from an early age - Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button even have racing-related names. |

The times today:
1. L. Badoer Ferrari F2003-GA 1'25"432 124 laps 2. F. Massa Ferrari F2003-GA 1'26"043 53 laps 3. N. Heidfeld Jordan-Ford EJ13 1'26"541 50 laps 4. M. Gené Williams-BMW FW25 1'26"597 76 laps 5. L. Burti Ferrari F2003-GA 1'26"630 9 laps 6. J. Button BAR-Honda 005 1'26"709 26 laps 7. R. Schumacher Williams-BMW FW25 1'26"956 69 laps 8. T. Sato BAR-Honda 005 1'27"437 49 laps 9. N. Piquet Williams-BMW FW25 1'28"640 46 laps 10. J. Janis Jordan-Ford EJ13 1'29"001 46 laps 11. N. Rosberg Williams-BMW FW25 1'30"262 30 laps The track was about 8 seconds slower since it rained all night (but not during the session). Nico spun off in the afternoon. Well, it is even more difficult to say anything about their performance because the track was wet...but they didn't do bad. Last edited by piquetfan; 4 Dec 2003 at 18:15. |

Did anyone here notice today's test times? I believe that Nelsinho was nearly 2 seconds quicker than Nico - and as I remember the plan always was that they would be given a free reign today.

but still the 'sons' are doing pretty crappy in their times- i would compare them to a new kid who started with less experience- Kimi Raikkonnen- if your speed and skill is short of his than i feel you have no place in F1 these days. 23 race starts before F1, and in year2 he challenges for the title! Nico and Nelsinho have their handsful if they want to impress, more so they are testing top stuff (even with less revs, and on day 2(?) they should do better than a honda or jordan-shows how good Hiedfield might actually be)

Williams named its 2nd test driver! No it isn't Piquet Jr. neither is it Rosberg Jr....they officialy re-signed Antonio Pizzonia! Finally some good news about Antonio the word is that he may combine Williams F1 testing with racing in the Nissan V6 (the category where Gene kept his racing skills in a good shape during the last season)

As long as Nelsonho doesnt have a mouth as big as his dad's, he would do fine..
PS- 'THE NEXT SENNA' rhetoric.. PLEASE not again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As i've said before a driver like Senna comes once in a century. Mr Nelsonho would do verywell to get an actual f1 contract. |

I think the baseline for how far should a new driver be in his first outing is what Alonso set himself.
In Valencia, Minardi M01, 1999, Alonso was just below one second behind Marc Gené. On wets and in his first time at Valencia and in an F1! |

I always expected Pizzonia to test again for Williams, if the rules for 2004 were different, he'd replace Gene as the number 1 tester.
Still can't believe he was slower than Webber... but that's another story. Here just to say one thing: Heard a rumour that Piquet Jr is set to test for Williams again in January. Btw. Pizzonia is not signed yet. Last edited by DieRitter; 16 Dec 2003 at 23:32. |

Latest I've read is that Nico Rosberg is looking likely for the 2nd test seat.

I wouldn't put too much store in these reports, which are primarily generated by the powerful PR machines employed by rich, powerful ex-world champs on behalf on their beloved cherubims in the hope that, if you say it often enough and load enough it will become fact

Just kidding racingdad.
After all Nico has confirmed some tiem ago that he will repeat the Euro F3 series in 2004. Afterwards, well, we all know that Montoya will leave a vacant seat at Williams. Apart from those rumours, the parallel competition between him and Nelsinho will be a touch of colour on the next F3 season. This F3 season ultimately will be the very decider about who'll get the contended seat. |
