It would be idiotic PR not to have him topping the time sheets. That is why #8 will get the pole as #7 getting it would be absolute no-news, unlike in the past years with mfg competition. Which means only one of the cars should ideally be going for a 'quick time', the other one should back off and just do long race prep runs in quali.
However since #8 will get even bigger headlines if it's Alonso that sets the fastest time, not the other two guys, I don't expect it to be mind-blowing time like with Kobayashi last year. Probably '15 or '16. High '14s if the traffic is as sparse as last year. He will probably set it in Q2 if he's not 100% comfortable with night running yet Only common sense to do it this way from their perspective, and I'm not even being sarcastic In the race such trickery won't really work out however, unless they are 1-2 with 20 lap lead by sunday morning which doesn't sound very likely Last edited by Deleted; 12 Jun 2018 at 12:50. |

https://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152903 Pretty straight forward rules. Pick the fastest qualifier in each class and pick a car in each class that you think will do good in the race. You are then awarded the points that car gets in the race, plus 6 points for each correct qualifying pick. |

That's not written to stone though as teams can still make switcheroo until the end of qualifying. But anyway I guess it's interesting that of the "big F1 names" only Montoya will take the start
Meanwhile http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...f-le-mans.html “They can be a threat for Pole certainly, from what we saw (at the Test) from Rebellion, they’re great through Sectors 1 and 3. I expected them, to be fast as they can run a lot of downforce than we can." Even if it was possible, which it isn't really, would they be allowed to I mean I get it that it's more of a vague fear factor than actual direct threat to have non-hybrids undergo stop-and-gos in the race for being 'too fast' in contrast to Toyota, because it would look laughable on TV and media (which is why they've never utilized the same method in GTE despite the regs stating the possibility)... but still... |

Another personal one from me. I had a great day today. We drove to the circuit and I drove a 'lap' for the first time in 33 years of going (in my own car). Stopped up to look at the chicanes, Mulsanne Corner, Indianapolis, Arnage and the Porsche Curves. As my lad is a first-timer, we went to the museum (which is free for those with a general entry ticket). Many of the cars are the same but there are one or two additions since my last visit two years ago, including the 'Blue and Orange' exhibit. We then went into the circuit and walked through the Village (checking out the Tenthers meeting place!) and then managed to get in the pits. After we walked along the garages my son noticed that they were wheeling out some GTE Porsches back towards the Ford Chicane so we walked down there. No-one stopped us and we found ourselves among about 20 'ordinary' spectators who gatecrashed the Porsche photoshoot with ALL of the GTE Porsches, Pro and Am. It was brilliant. I had a chat with Khaled Al Qubaisi, who hopes for a longer race this year and who told me he looks very carefully in his mirrors for orange prototypes..... Terrific day.

What a great experience! Really distracting from the politics I'm sure and to be able to share it with a child - very cool. Give them good memories before their eyes are opened to the online bickering.

Better that they took the average rather than on a single flying lap. I personally expect (mind you, we're still the best part of a day away from FP1) that Toyota should maybe be faster over a long run with that extra hybrid power helping them though traffic and they probably have some spec of confidential tires from Michelin.
The downforce should help the privateers though the twisty stuff, but those are also the areas you can lose time in traffic. |

Can privateers double, triple, and quadruple stint tires? Is that worth anything? The added downforce will help tire life.

Problem is that we do know, especially with the shorter stints this year, that Toyota can triple and probably quadruple stint tires with no trouble at all. Maybe we might see the privateers pull an Audi '11 and quintuple stint tires possibly with the shorter stints if they can get the tires to last without drop off.
As hinted at earlier in this thread with a link, there's been no significant EOT change for LMP1 for LM race week so far. There's been a ton of movement in BOP for GTE-Pro, with only the Porsche 911s still in the same spec as at the test day. http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...-released.html http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...-adjusted.html Here's one for those of you who like to keep stats, but in recent years only once has the car that set fast time in the LM test day gone on to win the race, and that was in 2013. I think they'll at least try. Rebellion said that they were easy on the tires at Spa. With them only doing 10 lap stints, a quadruple stint for them is the length of a triple stint from last year's lmp1's. I want to see if anyone goes for a quintuple stint. That'd be a marathon on the same tires but I believe it's possible and that may gain some positions.

But the new stupid pit rules makes that hardly an advantage.

They'll still at least triple stint because tire allocations are similar to last year's. Actually, we might see quadruple stints because of that and the shorter stints.

At 61 years of age, my 'child' is 28, but it's been a huge pleasure for me to have him here and to see how he is just lapping it up. And my other one joins us on Friday....
