Perhaps when there's a braking zone or when downforce is required to stay at full throttle, something like that.

Depends which start is used. The other starting line is at the La Source-Eau Rouge straight. This is actualy the classic starting position.
Mid Ohio is usualy started from the back straight which ends in a righthander.

Zolder and Imola have always had left corners for first corners anyways.

That's a 50/50 for Spa.

If you compare track maps on F1.com it doesn't really make sense everywhere. Just look at turns 21-22-23-24 at Valencia for example and compare that to Montreal. The place where Kubica crashed isn't a numbered corner (turn 9 is left-hander of the previous chicane and turn 10 is the hairpin)

In fact, the kink in Montreal is enough to put pole position on the left. The last corner is left-hander as is first "real" corner which would usually mean pole on the right side.

Other current F1 circuits where there is different directions for first and last corner.

- Sepang
- Shanghai
- Valencia
- Spa
- Abu Dhabi

People can't count turns. The backstraight's hairpin in Shanghai is counted as two corners where it shouldn't and the ridiculous chicane right-hander in Singapore is coutner as three corners although drivers almost don't turn left.

Ahh bit is it "round the bend"?
It could be driving you round the kink, or round the sweeping left, or the hairpin, most folk on here can't seem to make up their mind......

ever been to the southern hemisphere lol sadly for you your urban myth is true for toilets, baths and sinks. I have lived in both as I am sure have many other people.

as for left handed first corners in current season F1 tracks, I can think of Singapore, Istanbul, Interlagos, Montreal off the top of my head anyway.
