The race of 1000 years was a significant commercial failure, with alleged losses running into 8 figures at the time. |

Approx 150,000 odd spectators were reported to attend in 2000 which compares quite well to the Clipsal numbers. According to Racerviews.com Quote:

So anyway.....
Racing starts today. While the championship is probably in the bag only once in the history of the event has a driver who did not complete Saturdays race not make the start on Sunday. That driver - SVG |

So I suspect we will see a fairly mature Shane if he isn't at the front end, cruise to get enough points to seal the deal Saturday? |

Reports at the time in local media and directly from inside the organisation were for a circa $10 mill loss - much more than budgeted for. Quite where those could be found 16 years later would be a challenge no doubt. In the meantime, here in 2016 it's getting rather warm in Western Sydney. Regular news item I've heard in radio news this morning has been that teams are planning to have some drivers in commercial fridges to cool them down with expected internal car temps as high as 70 deg. There used to be an allowance in the rules to permit removal of the front perspex windows when the stewards declare it hot - if that rule is still there it may well get used this weekend. |

So there is an error in your calculations off the bat. Also were you aware of the deal between Don Panoz and the South Australian government in terms of freight, team expenses etc? Remembering that the ALMS raced across 3 continents in 2000. Interesting thoughts, especially considering the other reports that completely contradict this - as per my link provided before. If he wants to continue that discussion he can go the pm route. Often get some surprises out of the Homebush weekend - let's see what it dishes up for its last hurrah. |

The race made 8 years, so already it's more successful than some of the others mentioned earlier (though I don't see how you can split the Super Touring Bathursts considering that event was in its 35th year).
It seems like they persevered with the losses for a few years longer than the likes of Canberra to try and make it work, they really did seem to bet alot on this event... Wasn't there a quote from Mr Cochrane along the lines of "you haven't made it big until you've cracked Sydney"? How does going to Newcastle help that? Quote:

Maybe it would have been fitting for "The Potbelleez" to reform for this weekends concert, given they were the star performers when the Sydney 500 was launched in Martin Place early in 2009
I still remember Matthew White proclaiming "Who here loves the Potbelleez" to be greeted by crickets from the crowd.... all he could come back with was "Well you will after this" |

Not saying that one is more or less bad or that they're all the same, just that local residents suffer plenty of disruption from a wide range of events, of which the V8 race is one. |

Probably doesn't help that there's really only two ways in and out of the area; Australia Avenue and Hill Rd.
A lot of people live in the area, let alone those operating businesses. |

perfectly timed safety car, meanwhile the guy he took out finishes 4 laps down. Maybe a redress is in order

Red Bull pace is just on another level - thought SVG would have to keep fighting for the title tomorrow after his PLP, guess not.
