Follow Stian Paulsen on YouTube.
Races in the TCR Europe series. Does all the work himself between race meetings, tows it behind his van in an enclosed trailer, and hired a couple of weekend warriors to crew it at the track. Top 5 runner, and a true privateer. |

Kind of old school, 60s-70s-like vibes, eh?

Surely a new diverse category can be a good thing rather than another tier of the same v8 powered common chassis series? Understand that there is questions around Australia's ability to sustain high numbers of categories - however atleast this is an internationally proven category and has manufacturer interest already. |

The only reality check is that a guy with 3 crew and a trailer can run in the top 5 doesn't say much for the professionalism and competitiveness of the series at all. It's just like GT3 but slower and more boring.

He's running up against factory-assisted teams, such as WRT who won the Bathurst 12hr this year. I'm guessing they also tow their fleet of cars behind high-milage vans, and sleep in half-day rate motels.

What a ridiculous view of motor racing A series isn't unprofessional just because the little guys have a chance of doing well. |

Actually it means even a professional race team can't make a difference because there is so little you can do to the cars, so why don't we run it like the Toyota 86 series?

I think it says more about the affordability and user-friendliness of the ruleset.

Maybe you need to have a closer look at them, and see all the racecar bits they have. |

I feel there are a lot of people scratching for reasons not to like them.
Perhaps as they did when Group A came to be or was in the 'pre-happening' stage? Time will tell if it is a bit of a NIMBY approach. |

These would be an entertaining class running around with the GTs, BUT I fail to see why anybody would spend Carrera Cup money to go so slow, and be in such an uninspiring vehicle, especially when the VAG makes are all the same bits, running in 4 different body shells. Hyundai and Kia will do the same thing, without a doubt. They may have nice race car bits but they are still droning 4-pot bum draggers, none of which makes for spectacular racing. If the manufacturers wanted a fleet of these things racing against each other in their names, they could easily do it, but they are instead profiteering on it. |

Whilst we know what the cars are based on overseas experience / material, we don't have anything concrete at this point on who'll be running the series, where it will be running (I suspect Shannons Nationals but let's see what comes) or what brands / teams are likely or confirmed to be taking part.
In my view, until those things at least are known, it's pretty hard to form any meaningful opinion on where it might sit in the overall Oz circuit racing landscape. |

It may not get off the ground here at all. I won't lose any sleep over it.
If it does, great. |

If it falls over, at least they'll be able to offload a TCR car to another series

Sufferred the opening round of the British series. A dozen or so entries made for a significantly dull couple of races. Qualifying was worse. The problem is high performance FWD cars are not very exciting unless they're travelling in packs. In my opinion, the TCR concept is somewhat limited in appeal.

A big problem we have is that if people don't like one part of something, then they carry on as if the whole thing is no good.
We have this in the music industry - picture a show with 5 bands playing, some people will see a band they like and go along to watch. Others will see that there is a band playing they don't like, so will make sure not to attend and tell all their friends that they shouldn't go either. Terrible attitude. I'm not interested in TCR. Can't see myself watching much of them at all TBQH. But why can't we have a discussion about how our current series could be improved by some of the concepts from within TCR? Manufacturer diversity, low running costs, easy maintenance - someone explain to me again why Supercars needs to be a development series and how that provides any benefit to anyone at all? |

A couple of hundred people employed in designing, manufacturing & servicing the cars might have something to say about a benefit... In fact I believe some of them even post here.
