Excellent, I'd gladly watch a static camera feed at one of the horseshoes or turn 1 with RSL coverage overlaid. |

Based on last year Cadillac also ran with sprint bodywork at Daytona aside from removing diveplanes. Orecas seem to be running sprint bodywork but with one instead of two diveplanes.

Perhaps the cold weather kept them on the sidelines? Not sure why it would though, because the race could be just as cold. I wonder if their recent testing accident played a role?

About mazda testing laptimes... you know... everyone is good enough to set single fast laps.... problem is how many laps can you mark before making engine blow? look how many pole mazda scored in 2016, and then give a look at final standing |

The #66 Racers group Porsche who won the Daytona 24 overall in 2003 qualified at 1:54.8. I say this because guess who is getting real close to this: The GS cars of CTSCC.

Session 2 underway, and Colin Braun out of absolutely nowhere in the CORE Oreca. Also, Gustavo Yacaman currently faster than Alonso in the same type of car.

1:37.2 by the Mustang Sampling Caddy, they're knocking on 36's. Hope they get there.

The Penske cars looks to be hiding his real performance if you check the "best lap" and "ideal lap"
Best Sectors The Cadillacs are the fastest cars on lap time, and in straight line speed too. Top Speed |

Ligier lmp2 seems the most low downforce car in grid, no diveplates at all and 193mph as top speed for all of them in second session. Still unable to run under 1.38 so far.

4th session now live, Ford the first GTE to dip into the 1:43's.
Edit- now a 1:36.9 at the top of the field by none other than the Whelen Caddy. Last edited by TF110; 6 Jan 2018 at 21:16. |

S395 wrote yesterday that the Multimatic/Rilay was still using the old mechanical configuration. What about the aero? The car can't pass the 185 mph barrier.

Even if it has updated aero, if it can't put the power down effectively, they're still going to be hurting on those two massive "straights".
Good to see both Mazdas under 1:40, and the #77 posted a 1:38.1. |

ok 193mph, but what time was marked on that lap?
draft and 0 downforce from wings and you can get easily insane top speeds.... look at dallara lmp2 last year at le mans.... 340km/h on straight, barely could stay on the road at porsches |

Would be great to see the GTLM pole winner down into the 1 42s by the 24 weekend. I feel that the 24 hour race qualifying times will be faster than the Roar "qualifying" times that we'll get on Saturday.
But there have been some consistencies about the practice sessions so far. In prototype the Cadillacs and Oreca 07s are up on top. GTLM has been Ford with Porsche and Ferrari right behind them, then Corvette. BMW trailing significantly by GTLM standards. In GTD, Mathay Porsche looking very very good so far. |
