I do not really agree, ok he had bad luck in the last race but still managed to win the first race of the season... i think he will be focused on the formula Nippon title this year again as his team mate, Oshino Jr, in SuperGT is out of the pace...

How much do the drivers get paid, is it a decent wage?

I dont know how much the drivers get paid but I would guess that its more than £100,000 a year on average, considerably more if your one of the top line drivers. Dont forget that most of the drivers in Nippon also race in Super GT as well as in Nippon, and for manufacturers. I would guess that the drivers make a good living in Japan, perhaps not quite as good as a top line Champcar driver or IRL or ALMS but more than the mid field drivers in those series who are probably paying for their drives in part.

Does that really say "DOING" on the sidepod? It's as though they're putting their own comedy sound effects on the car rather than waiting for post production.

On the same note, most drivers audition and pay to drive on the Formula Nippon series. When drivers get paid, it is because their sponsors pay the salary. During the 1990's, the teams paid the drivers to drive, but that type of contract is long gone. It is true, GP2 costs a lot more than Formula Nippon which is why foreign drivers may come to Japan. It is still considered the next category following F1 along with GP2. I believe though there is much more tough competition in the Formula Nippon series.

Wonder what happens if Lola FN06 does back-to-back testing against the Dallara GP2, using an engine that could do equal number of CVs.
Just to compare to the old days where the Reynard 99L was far better than the F3000's Lola B99/50 Japanese clone.

2008 season

Seems like for the 2008 season, the Paddle Shift will be allowed finally. Final testings were done couple of months ago.
It will be great to see the veteran drivers and rookie of Formula Nippon as more shifting points will be possible.

And, for 2009, a new chassis is scheduled to be used. Chassis will be from Swift Engineering. Lola will no longer be the supplier.

Alex K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I presium they are paid by backers mostly with which they have contracts as well as with the teams.

Dunno, if there anything of a money competition between Toyota and Honda, if though they and teams might be paid also by Manufacturers, as it used to be in IndyCar Series.

yes, most drivers are paid by their own sponsors > then the drivers pay the team to drive for them. but it does depend on the drivers...
for example, some drivers are works drivers by the manufacturer, which means they are their employers.
1) Hiranaka > Toyota (GT driver for Toyota SC)
2) Motoyama > Nissan (GT driver for Nissan Z33)
3) Michigami > Honda (GT driver for Honda/NSX) etc...
which is why you will never see those drivers drive for an opposite manufacturer...
Since Formula Nippon only has Toyota and Honda as engine suppliers, Nissan chose to go with Toyota...so...Nismo/Impul team uses a Toyota engine.

and since it is a one-make race, both engine have the same spec(at least supposed to by regulations) and is circulated randomly to all teams after each race.

This weekend we'll have the penultimate race on the season at Motegi - and Nakajima drivers took entirely the front row: Kogure on pole, Duval 2nd. Master Motoyama will start 3rd and current champion and series leader Tréluyer 5th. The Super Aguris of the series (ARTA) will start 11th with our remembered Yuji Ide, and 14th from former German F3 champion Toshihiro Kaneishi.

How low had fallen Tora Takagi - he'll start from 20th!
