Several additional entries have come in now, and worth noting are:

- Penske has submitted three entries
- Panther Racing and Cheever Racing have both filed two entries each

I wonder if Penske will field a third Marlboro-car this year or if it might be another cooperation with Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

Official entry list is available here: http://www.indy500.com/news/story.php?story_id=6101

Andretti-Green Racing has announced a new paint-scheme for Dario Franchitti. Starting at Indianapolis, the Canadian Club paint scheme will be introduced and then run for the rest of the season.

One of the best looking open-wheel paint schemes ever, in my opinion - can't wait to see it out on track.

It is nice, better then Wheldon's old one as it was confusing for me. Hope it brings him luck this time.

The third Penske entry is a backup, Schmidt will be his own entry if he enters since he now owns Penske's old Panozes. I definitely don't see Penske running a third car. I think this is something that they started doing because of what happened in '95 (although with such a spec formula, something like what happened in '95 is incredibly unlikely to ever occur).

There were 19 at St. Pete qualifying last weekend, figure no more than 22 'regulars', so quite an effort to support 14 additional entries (allowing for one dns), but I bet it happens somehow.

I also wonder if Adrian Ferandez will be able to raise money for a ride in the race. I would personally like to see him in it.

Fernandez sold the chassis he used last year, but with his teams' switch to Dallara, I'm sure he has a few surplus Panozes now.

I'm happily surprised by Cheever's 7th time inthe first session; old Eddie is getting a good shape apparently!
Team Owner, what do you think about it?

Still, would they really need four backups for Castroneves and Hornish?

On a side-note the entries are really flowing in now - as of yesterday the following were added:

5 entries from Andretti-Green Racing
3 entries from Chip Ganassi Racing
3 entries from Vision Racing
1 entry from Playa del Racing

Right now there are 32 entries submitted, and apparently there are more on the way in, so I'd say we can pretty much expect to not only see a full grid but also some bumping again this year

In a way I almost feel bad for the naysayers who once again bite the dust. Sorry fellas, better luck next year.

Some interesting tidbits from yesterday's open test:

- Team Cheever expects to name their second driver after the IndyCar race at Motegi.

- Jaques Lazier is getting close to putting a deal together.

- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing might expand to a three-car entry for the Indy 500.

- Veteran engineer Roman Kuzma, who last fielded a car at Indy in 1992, was on hand at the Speedway and is hoping to field a car for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500. He has access to one of Newman-Haas Racing's backup cars from last year.

I think there was always going to be 33, just this year more then ever it would be more of a mission but there will always be a solution.
It would be nice to see some bumping this year...

A1 Team USA expect to finalise their Indy 500 plans within the next fortnight, and have promised that a former event winner will drive the car, according to this week's Autosport.

There's no denying there were a lot of question marks at the beginning of the year, but thankfully the number of entries seem to be stronger than it has been in quite some years.

I would think that we will see bumping again this year, and we'll probably see more than just one car, like last year, get bumped as well.

Interesting - my guess, if they get their program together, is that Arie Luyendyk is the former winner in question.

Ah yes, Arie Luyendyk has been rumored as well. Would be nice to see another former winner take part.

I suspect a lot of those 32 are intended as backup cars, but there are clearly a lot of teams who could run more cars than usual for the race. At my count we could have Playa Del, Kuzma, A1 USA, another D&R, Schmidt, another Penske, another 2 Foyts, another Cheever, and perhaps more, and this is seemingly without much Georgefare.

Rumor from AR1 is that Wendlinger will enter a car.

My bad, I mistook him for Rick Weidlinger who is part of the USA A1 team.

Actually, if you count all cars entered, including backup cars, the number rises to 59

The 32 cars I counted to are either confirmed with drivers or an open 'primary' seat with a team. I did not include any T-cars whatsoever.

This is looking really promising - fingers crossed a few of these guys will stick around for the season. Interesting if Al, Michael and Arie all end up racing against their sons - motor racing seems to have more nepotism than any other sport.

"final" entry list filed today.

Vision filed a 4th entry (#90) with no driver (this is likely an insurance policy in case the field doesn't get to 33)

Arie Luyendyk filed an entry for his son (#61 Panoz) with Skip Faul & Tim Wardrop as engineers.

Hemelgarn filed 2 more entries, #92 for Jeff Bucknum w/ Investment Properties sponsorship and #93 with no driver named. Neither have T cars entered.

C+S Motorsport entered #36 Panoz which I assume is the old N/H car from last year. No driver listed. The owners are John Cummiskey & Mark Shambarger.

Sam Schmidt filed a pretty much blank entry form (no driver, chassis, or "strategist" listed)
