$93M in Redundancy & other payments.

100 Jobs.

Either I want a job there or the 'other payments' are the real killer on the plant.
What is the written down value of that plant?? Most of the $93m I should expect

at least the uninformed won't be able to complain as much as the chance of a 747 mistaking the refinery lights for approach lights will be diminished

Perhaps the 7/11 change allows an opportunity for them to join V8Supercar... I mean Mr Kanaan has been backed by these guys in the Indy series for some years...

Well, V8 Supercars did want more FMCG-derived sponsors, and this could be their big chance

However, there are 5900 7-Eleven stores in the US; and Australia currently has 385, which is soon to be 687 stores.

The $64 question is whilst a 6000-odd store base is sufficient to fund a top level motorsport team in the US, would a 700-odd store base be capable of doing the same locally?

With the appropriate FMCG product suppliers in assistance, absolutely.

700 stores @ $60/wk/store = $2m+ racing budget as a marketing levy

Not impossible if there is a direct translation of the spend to increased turnover... would be good for V8Supercar to have pics of race cars in each of these outlets too...

But who has the time/energy/skill/marketing solution to execute?

retailing is the small picture

"We are pleased to have been able to reach agreement for the sale of our retail business to 7-Eleven," said Mobil's Fuels Director Kim MacMillan.

"The Australian retail fuels market is highly competitive and challenging. Mobil is now a relatively small participant in that sector of the market following the extensive rationalization of its company-owned service station network over the last few years. We continue to be a major fuel wholesaler to the commercial and industrial sectors of the market, including aviation, regional distributors and other independent resellers."

The deal with 7-Eleven does not include any other part of ExxonMobil Australia's operations.

So it will depend if HRT's sponsorship contract is with the refining or retail part of Exxon Mobil as to weather they will continue with Mobil signwriting or it is replaced with 7 Eleven branding.

At present we have Mobil Quix at most sites which are effectively identical to a 7/11 so perhaps all they will do is replace the Quix with 7/11.

They'll have to increase the number of lights though as most 7/11's can be seen from the Moon because the lights are so bright.

Interesting that Speedcafe virtually copied the thoughts from here and wrote an article...

I thought Quix was a joint venture between Pepsi & Mobil... certainly thats how the #55 Commodore was branded back when Mr Brock had his race team... with Mr Dunstan in the pilot's seat

Is the article on the Speedcafe website? I can't see it....

Did they use your $60/week marketing levy contribution example?

The short answer probably is I wouldn't think so!!!

HRT have a contract with Mobil - through which they promote the Mobil 1 product.
Mobil have SOLD the retail business to 7 Eleven, a company which HRT has no current agreements with.
HRT's deal with Mobil would have little bearing on Mobil's deal to sell it's retail stores to 7 Eleven.

So are the Mobil servos in SA going to stay Mobil? Going from that story they aren't about to become 7-11s.
