Great effort from Ranger at Conquest, and it's a good point that the Atlantics guys ahve done at least as well as the European championship graduates. Off-topic, but Danika did very well at St Pete's before her gearbox failed, although she's still got to adjust to the oval races.

It's itneresting to see Bruno ahead of Seb, and Wilson beating AJ, but the gaps are all pretty small right now. All the ingredients of a great race are in place.

AJ is quoted as not being happy at all with his car's performance. He said they lacked overall grip and that there is a lot more speed to be had.

Note on Newman-Haas. They used the standard tires, they still have the stickier option tires in their pocket.

I thinnk PKV and Rocketsports are suffering the same ailment Forthsye suffered last year where they concentrated so much on the aspects of the series that they neglected their teams, you cant do it all with driver talent just as Forthsye floundered against the NH domination with a really strong driver lineup.

I find PKV surprising because there are people other than KK running the team, so I don't know that his activities are a distraction. Getting beat by a Conquest rookie and two rookies on HVM is not what I expected from them this year. It's still really early to be saying this kind of stuff.

Even though Bourdais is clearly the faster of the NH pair, Junky was quicker in qualifying last year @ LB. I suspect AJ didn't quiet get things 100% and I suspect they'll be closer together in Q2. I have a feeling that these two are going to be the most interesting teammates to watch this year.

Tag says his lap was substantially compromised and he figures he lost 4/10ths. I don't normally root much for anyone, but I really want to see Tag do well this year and I think he can.

Briscoe (who wasn't super fast), smoked Danica @ St. Petes, both of whom looked better by being at the front as a result of pit stratagy. The Atlantics graduates in CC are so far smoking their more highly touted European trained counterparts.

3rd practice and del Monte's almost up with the next guy (Marshall)...picking it up quickly, nice work.

Glock top rookie this time, usuals at the front (Bourdais, Tracy, Wilson, Junqueira)

Jensen team improving all the time.

Marshall is 2.5s off his team-mate, which suggests he may not be ready for the step up to CC

Looks like PT is on pole. I think he beat De Faren's lap record.

Interesting that Ranger was unable to improve on his Q1 time, unless he didn't run for some reason? Nelson outqualified him too.

Bjorn has to be concerend about Bremer consistantly outpacing him. RHR has his work cut out if he if going to be anywhere near Glock this season. Glock is half a second up and he's never been to Long Beach.

AJ has been no where near Wilson so far. 7/10ths is a pretty big gap between the two.

That was a brilliant qualifying. That''s the way it should be. Flat out speed. F1 IMO got it horribly wrong with their current system.
PT on pole will be hard to beat. Don't think Bruno has the cajones to take him on. Mario in third; Forsythe look strong.
Watched onboard with Wilson, he looked fast and stable. Top 5 are within a half second of each other.
My hearts thumping already. Let's go RACING!!!!!

I was very impressed with Glock -- he showed a lot of potential in pre-season testing and it looks like he's for real. "Swim with the Sharks; Run with the Bulls; Race with the Germans" (except for one of course) continues to be my motto.

I have to confess I was wondering whether if del Monte got one more red flag they'd let him keep it, but I am willing to give him time to pull it together now that I know who he is.

The most impressive thing is that we're not hearing a lot of whining about "reject pay drivers from Formula One" this year -- everyone is being given a chance to show what he can do.

Intersting line up there, with some impressive displays, especially from Wilson and Glock. Regarding Ranger, it could be that he had a car problem, as they didn't want to switch to the spare as that would mean losing his original laptime. Should be an interesting race, as most of the rookies seem to have adjusted well.

Considering Bremer knows the track and has raced at Long Beach before, I would have been surprised if Bremer hadn't been faster than Wirdheim.

So, NBC and TSN finally begin their TV coverage on lap 4. Not only that, it's lap 7 now, and they haven't even shown the start of the race!

Looked like Eurosport was going to miss the start as well, running late due to another program, but they made it just in time.

I must say the quality of the broadcast has improved ten fold from last year! It appears that even though last years broadcasts were produced by MTV, it took the likes of Molson to find out how to license pop music.

The broadcast is very professional already this year. Hey we even got a couple of replays already!

I do wish they would really show the start though.

It looks like it's Tracy's race to lose so far.
A great pass on that restart, it looked similar to what Ranger dd to Phillipe but both drivers involved had the experience to stay apart, unlike the teenagers.
