That wouldn't have helped Burti as he probably didn't have any after he'd hit Irvine.

His lack of front wing also meant he had no downforce and as you said no brakes because the right front was no longer attached

But how to prevent this, if you tie them tight enough, there will be any use, as they will act like a solid barrier...

Re. brakes functioning after loosing one wheel.
Does the modern F1 car no longer have a double master cylinder and split brakes? In other words it used to be mandatory that the cars had 2 master cylinders and the braking system was split in two so at least you had some brakes if you lost a wheel.
I understand that loosing the front wing will take all the downforce away, but a little braking is better then no braking at all. At no time did the rears lock up during Burtis travell into the barrier. Also on asphalt the driver might just be able to change the attitude of the car to lessen the impact

To be honest I don't know.

All I was saying was that the front wheel being loose meant that the brakes there had no means of activating because the wheel was not in contact with the ground.

Even if Burti could have braked, the fact that the front part of his car was in the air would have meant he couldn't slow.

aw, ****. now TGF has spoken out about safety. I'm all for safety of the drivers, but with "Skinny Lizzy", "grooved tyres", etc...

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Next week's Italian GP will not be at Monza, but will now be relocated to the nearby fairground at the bumper cars circuit...

I was thinking about water as well, the downside would have to be ensuring the driver won't drown if he was to land upside down and the difficulty in retrieving the cars after the accident. HMMMMMmmnnnnnn
