A rescue unit once spun at Old Hall in the wet at Oulton. I told maggie who was driving, that I would never tell who was driving! So I won't!

Yesterday @ knockhil BTCC
A Seat Leon TDI being follwed rather closely by Vauxhall. The Vauxhall makes contact with the rear quarter of the seat sending the Seat into a spin which resulted in a visit to the tyre barrier @ post 10 The driver of the aforementioned Seat then removes himself from his car, jumps the barrier, stands around for a bit then give the driver of the Vauxhall the universall "I aint happy with you" salute |

At Curborough a couple of years ago a single seater had a fairly harmless spin, making light contact with the hedge. Marshals jog across and then stand around looking at it. No pushing, just that general sort of 'Hmmmm' stance. Eventually I wonder what's going on so I wander across to find that while the car is undamaged, it's rear wing is the other side of the hedge from the car. The angle of impact meant that the branches had happily parted and then popped back up in front of it! It required the rescue crew to unbolt the wing in order to move the car. A reminder that however long you've been marshalling, you can always see something new.

Cant remeber what meet it was but at thruxton several years ago the TV compant decided to build a camera tower about half way up the bank oppisite post 11, more or less on the scars left by other offs there, And sure enough during the course of the day a formula ford spun and went backwards into the base of the tower. When every one got there one of the legs of the tower was sat ontop of the gearbox supporting a leaning tower of thruxton with a very expensive tv camera on top of it! it made for an interesting recovery.

a certain Clerk at Oulton spun exiting Shell in the Aston Martin Vantage we'd been loaned at the Gold Cup a couple of years ago. All whilst taking a pretty lady out for a tour after a session had just ended.

There is always my 'Control from Post 12 - Priority! A plane has crashed!'
Happened at BTCC testing at Thruxton back in the 90s. |

Ach, that's nothing. I've heard both 'a helicopter is landing in my paddock' and 'a cow is giving birth next to the track' on the Shelsley radio. Planes crashing are comparatively ordinary!

"RC, just a heads up, there is a hot air balloon directly to your right, and he seens to be aiming to land on the infield."
It was about 80-90 feet from the ground as it came over the track at Winton. |

Then there was Jody Scheckters' helicopter trying to land at Seer very close to the live track. Marshals were waving the pilot away but he thought they were directing him in. He was probably 30 feet from the ground before he realised and flew off. |

cant remeber which circuit it was but i remember the story i was told. few years ago at this certain post, a saloon car was braking a bit closer to the corner time after time until the inevitable happened and he stuffed it. when the driver was chattin with the marshals they were askin why his braking was getting later and later. he replied quite happily that it wasnt as he was using a rock on the edge of the track as his brake marker. upon inspection of said rock by the marshals it turned out to be a hedgehog wondering down the track!

A couple of years ago a driver said to KayBee 'you nearly made me crash'. In practice he'd used 'the marshal with the silly hat' as his braking marker. Come the race, the incident marshals had moved round...no silly hat to indicate his braking point! |
