D Type,re "certain risk",isn't that what we take every time we get into a race car? Its obviously all down to personal choice as to our choice of safety equipment. I have even known of a situation in which a HANS was very likely the cause of a broken collarbone after a car had been hit in the drivers door. Now perhaps that was a one off but it does say something about no matter what precautions we take, the risk is ALWAYS there.

What are peoples' thoughts on wearing a full face helmet, but with a peak rather than a visor?

A few people in CSCC races are doing driver changes quicker than that, whilst being HANS equipped.

I think that look has been cornered by the two wheel boys, and they're not even interested on staying on the ground, or on their machine, never mind the limits of the track!

Track limits....? Can't say that rings a bell!

I meant something like this -

Is having a peak rather than the visor going to bring into play the safety issues associated with open-face helmets, with a closed saloon car?

If I'm driving a closed car I tend to wear a helmet like that.

I think they probably do offer a good compromise Tim. From a personal POV it's the peak I don't like, I always catch it in my peripheral vision but that's only my personal comfort. You'll still get substantial protection from the chin bar against anything solid. It's been made popular by the touring car drivers and we sell quite a few.

Nice compromise, reasonably cool to wear, depending on which one, quite light as well.Used to use one years ago until I started instructing, open face doesn't require too much shouting.

I wear a Bell helmet with that type of peak/visor. No problems with it. It can also be used as a traditional fullface with full visor.

And if we are discussing all types of helmet, what about the biker-style, that looks like a full-face, but the front of which opens on a hinge like a F/F visor?

Did the HANS prevent a broken neck though?

I think open face helmets should be allowed on motor sport - we owe it as a service to the human genetic pool!
