Hi Bryan, David
I do not recall the name of the owner/driver for the BT36-1 in 77 in the F/Libre UK events. I was interested in the Felthams Glassworks BT30 Nov 75 ad ref. A friend of mine in UK said that he had seen a BT36 very similar to mine (#10) being run in F/Libre by the Felthams Glassworks in the 73/74 timeframe. I am wondering if that could have been BT36-10 ownership in 1974. Ian |

No, I have nothing on Overall in this car in 1975 either, though he did race the ex-Salisbury BT35 about ten years later.

Here is one of the 2 that I have been waiting for, "Please Explain?" as a certain Queensland politician once said.
(For those outside OZ an interviewer used a long word that was way beyond one of our politicians.) Bryan if you have the answer I would prefer an explanation that does not lead to you & I being sued for defamation!!!!! Andrew via email this morning from France; "Christian Geoffroy Have BT36-20 Bests Regards Remy Née" -Remy is a very quick driver in a BT28 and races in the Euro F2 as does Christian. |

Andrew.
Sooner or later this sort of thing was going to emerge. First and only guess is, somebody can't read. David McKinney advised earlier in this thread that Michael Baudoin had BT30-20 in France about 10 years ago , perhaps it is BT30-20 , and not 36-20, some of the ch.pl. have had a hard time. Also , while not a direct answer , Formula 1 Register [ F1R ] reports at Estoril 21-10-1973 that Fina enter Rolf Stommelen in BT30-36 , and he was on the grid and finished 3rd. on the day. Stommelen used BT30-25 in 1970 and BT36-4 in 1971 , but BT30-36 is out of left field. Can you enquire of Remy Nee the history of the car.???? Bryan. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:25. BT36's only.
To try to advance these cars , as there is less of them than BT30's, and they should therefore be easier !!! BT36-1 , current Andrew Fellowes / Australia. Rondel/ Schenken ,1971 including Brasil end of year. For sale Rondel 9-12-1971 A/S. To Tate of Leeds , via Bob Howlings and leased ??to Graham Hill for early 1972 F2 2.0 Litre , until Hills BT38 del. Through Malcolm Wayne /Brabham Racing Services , Bob Howlings [ dealer ] and apparently to Arthur Moore , reported in ex. Rondel/Howlings BT36 A/S. 21-6-1973. Problems ?? No def. ch.no. report for Moore only ex Howlings , so could be ch.no.-2 or -9. -2 unlikely , -9 more likely of the two. BT36-2, Current Leif Norberg / Sweeden. Rondel , for Graham Hill and Bob Wollek , Hill in Brasil in late 1971, for sale Rondel 9-12-1971, Autosport report Hills car sold to ''a gentleman in Japan ''. Is this poss. a gentleman in S.E.Asia by the name of John Macdonald , who certainly had what appears to be an ex. Rondel car for Macau Nov.1972. Equally it may have gone to Japan to Kuniomu Nagamatsu , F1R report -3-5-1973 for Bellco Racing with a Mitsbishi eng. If it is Macdonald , what did he do with car.??? sell or retain??? If Nagamatsu , car to one of the other teams ,e.g Kairo. ?? BT36-3 , current with Willy Markwalder in Switzerland. 1971 , Bernt Terbeck , who used car all through 1971 and retained into 1972 until crash at Hockenheim 16-4-1972 , accident involving New Zealand Driver Bert Hawthorne [ fatal ] , Autosport report Terbecks car badly damaged in accident. No furthur period reports of this chassis no. What happened to car ?? returned to factory for rebuild ?? repaired in Europe , sold as is ???? BT36-4 , Current Sid Hoole U.K. New to Roland Binder and used all through 1971 , 1972 and into 1973 until last appearance at Misano 22-7-1973. No furthur period reports. BT36-5 , current ??? poss. report in Paris circa 1990 for sale. New for Peter Westbury 1971 and retained into early 1972 and last used by Westbury at Thruxton F2 rd. 3-4-1972 , into U.K. hillclimbs with Nick Koob , thence to Chris Choat , reported in ex. Westbury car 28-3-1974 p.35. Still with car at Aintree 13-6-1974 p.29. Still with car 26-9-1974 . No advert. by Choat found by me , 1975 Choat now reported at least twice in a BT35 , poss. mix-up ???? Poss. to John ? Hardesty . BT36-6 , Now ??poss. in France , or -7 . Automobile Club Argentina for Carlos Reutemann F2 series in 1971 and car in Brasil , did car return to U.K. ??unlikely , given report in Autosport that the 2 x BT30's and the 2 x BT36's were to be used in a race driving school in Argentina , along with 9 x FVA's to service them. One car reported to be ch. -6 , but ex Ruesch in France. BT36-7 , same scenario as BT36-6 , except Carlos Ruesch as driver. At least one BT 36 resides in the Museum in Argentina 2003. BT36-8 , Current unknown . New to Ireland for Archie Phillips 1971 and 1972. 1973 to Eddie Regan , Autosport 1-2-1973 p.6. retained untill Bob Leckie reported as having just acquired the ex. Eddie Regan BT36 Autosport 31-5-1973 p.31. A car for sale by Leckie but called a BT35 Autosport 29-8-1974 , p60. In the meantime BT36-8 poss. to Phil Barak 14-3-1974 , and this car retained , and for sale 31-10-1974 p.55. No further def. details , but many advert. could be this car. Seems to have gone to ground. BT36-9 , Current unknown. Rondel for Bob Wollek 1971 after sharing Hills car earlier in season , first record of appearance Rouen , 27-6-1971 , for sale at 9-12-1971 , and sold to Uniacke Chemicals/Richard Scott for F2 at Mallory Park 12-3-1972 , could be the car to Arthur Moore , also equally could have gone to Japan , or more likely to John Macdonald for Macau Nov.1972. Current Ian Henderson ,Tucson Arisona since late 1976 . BT36-10 , New for John Wingfield , 1971 , 1972 Nicoby Racing for Wingfield , for sale by Wingfield 15-2-1973 , with streamlined nose and updates etc. To Iain McLaren by 10-5-1973 and used for rest of hillclimb season , no definate report of sale and many adverts. could be car , via Mike Gue/Road and Track [ dealer ] to current. BT36-11 , curent reported as Andy Newall U.K. New to Silvio Moser 1971/Marlboro Racing at Imola 25-7-1971.In 1972 finally takes delivery of new BT38 after some no shows . Very likely candidate for car for sale by MRE 14-9-1972 , reported as very little use by continental driver. No more known. BT36-12 , current unknown. New to Noritake Takahara and retained into 11-11-1973 , before taking del. of new March 742 for 1974. Poss. to Kawaguchi , for 1974, by 1975 F1R report BT36-12 with Asoaka . No further known. Plenty of owners with unidentifyable cars during period 1973-1976 , can anybody put chassis to any of these names. Ted Payne BT36 at Cadwell Park August 1974, and Croft March 1975. BT36 BDA for sale , Newcastle on Tyne 1850 cc, April 1975. BT36 ex. Rondel , less eng. only Oct. 1975 , Cheshire Sports Cars, and again into Jan. 1976. BT36 for sale as a rolling chassis for about 4 months in East Horsley , owner finally stating previous cheque ''rubber ''. Bob Howlings own car after he retires BT36 FVC , and ex Rondel.April 1976. Finally BT36, rolling chassis , good order , 600.00 pds. Godalming ph.no. Bryan , pardon the mistakes I am sure to have made. |

The computer has made a few mistakes.
1 , it merged Ian Henderson into the bottom of BT36-9. 2 , totally ignored the item reported by Chris Townsend in regard to the fact that an ex Rondell BT36 was in the U.S.A circa 1973. 3 , Totally forgot to print out BT36X , new as hillclimb car for Mike Macdowell , 5.0 litre Repco , retained untill A/S 14-11-1974 , when advert. for sale, to Tony Brown, advert. for sale by Brown,14-10-1976 A/S p61. The computer offers apologies. |

Noted the computer apology, Remarkable because computers being female don’t usually apologise.
Racing Car News 1973? (photo copy missing last line). "The strongest ever Australian attack on the Manilla Grand Prix, run in the capital of the Philippines at the end of January …..met defeat. …. Two other Australians appeared in Manilla, running in the F Libre 50-lapper the day after the GP. They were John MacDonald, now resident of Hong Kong, who drives a Brabham Ford." What I don’t have is the results or evidence it was a BT36. I will borrow the mag again. Shellsport G8 16th April 1976 Oulton Park. Bob Howlings BT36 BDA 10th 27th June 1976 Mallory Park John Tait BT36 BDA & Philip Guerola BT30 BDA both did not start. 2nd October 1977 John Tait BT36 BDA 31 laps not classified Was John Tait in Bob Howlings' car or his own? - if Howlings had an ex Rondel in '76 was this the same car? David thanks for the note, reply sent. |

McDonald was racing a BT40 by 1973
Re Bryan's last run-down: BT36-3 appeared fairly regularly in European historic racing from 1984 (or perhaps even earlier) until 1998 BT36-8 Barak raced in 1975 as well. I have a vague recollection of hearing he still owned the car in the late 1980s BT36-11 in European historic racing early 1990s |

Hi Bryan,
A few comments on the BT36 updated listing and misc ads. Two of the misc. ads are for BT36-10.The first one is East Horsley/4 months (Nick Overall ad) and the second ad (Goldaming)is the one I responded to in Dec 76 and then bought my brabham from Mike Gue. Also, BT36-1 was up for sale in 76 and bought from Bob Howlings by ? owner in late 76.I saw the car eraly in 77 and verified #1 chassis no. Ian |

Ian .
Thats great , when dealers are also drivers , we can't discern if they have their own ''pet '' car , or keep demonstrating stock , and turning them over. So Howlings was BT36-1 from ??????? to mid 1976 , when he announces retirement , and car for sale, and looks like it goes to Tait. This means the advert. 1-1-1976 , is BT36-1 as well. This then gives us a pretty full trail for BT36-10 , up to purchase by yourself, apart from a bit of a light time 1974-6 , with Overall appearing to do very little if anything with car. Bryan. Thanks ,David , that is why I had not called out anything in regard to him, except in this case from start of 1976 , with his adv. and incl. a photo at the G8 race in April 76 of the car with it's Rondel nose, pretty much devines it at that date as BT36-1.
What I really should have said was from at least start of 1976 , and poss. earlier. Bryan. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:29. Reason: Thread breakdown alteration |

From mid 76 John Tait owner/raced BT36-1. That was the name I was trying to remember. I met John in UK and confirm that he had bought BT36-1 and had rondel nose and FVC engine. Later changed to FVA for G8 event at Thruxton Aug. 77. The race report for G8 'not classified' 31 laps is correct, the car was not v.competitive against much more modern entries.
The other Ad for a BT36/BDA in Newcastle,March 75 could be for BT36-10, that is the timeframe that Nick Overall acquired my car. Ian |

Very interesting on 36-1 as I had been told it was in France from ’74 to 86. Clearly not so!
The table below is taken from my files of HSCC Pre ’71 entries & results. I have attempted to list which year driver & car first appeared. (I have no results for 1984 as I took that year off). Can anyone add the missing chassis numbers to the following for me? 1988 BT36-1 John Harper, Thruxton 1989 BT36-1 Peter Williams, Donington 1990 BT36-? Fredy Kumschick entered Hans Peter at Brands Hatch on the 2nd June. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:34. Reason: Thread breakdown alteration |

I was trotting around paddocks with my little notebook throughout the period, but can't add as much as I hoped I might:

This seems to fill a gap in my records
I have Kogan in 1999 in a car which had been campaigned since 1993 by John Beasley (and a slew of guest drivers), but whose number I never did discover. This car had been owned by John Harper in 1992. Last note I have under BT36/5 is it being for sale in Paris in 1990. It all ties in... |

A little update on BT36s from Rondel
Motoring News also reports the sale of the three cars Schenken to Howlings; Hill's to Hong Kong [hey Autosport could easily get it wrong, they're nearby!]; Wolleck's to Kendall, with the proviso that Richard Scott was going to race it in F2 until his BT38 was delivered. Howlings is reported by MN as racing the ex Schenken car at Croft Libre race in March, car then goes to Tate of Leeds for Hill until the BT38 arrives. The Hong Kong car is indeed MacDonalds. Vern Schuppan does a report for MN on the Singapore GP and remarks that MacDonald's car is the ex Hill car. I guess this goes to Japan soon after for Nagamatsu This more or less means, I think that 36-9 is the Opert car. But can someone tell me what Jose Arauyo's car was in 1974 British Atlantic. The most likely one is 10 in between MacLaren and Overall. Chris |

Hi Chris,
I just noted your ref. to Jose Arauyo's BT36 in 74 FA. Do you have a report ref. and any details. I am trying to trace BT36-10 history for that year. Trying to contact Nick Overall to find out who he bought BT36-10 from and when. Also,to find out the Salisbury/Gerrard BT35 chassis number. Ian |
